DID YOU KNOW? The music curriculum says to "teach theory." But it doesn't tell you what to teach, when, or how much detail at each grade level. Most teachers are left to figure that out alone.😓

That's why we wove music theory into the Fun Music K-6 Curriculum where it naturally belongs. We call this section SKILLS.🎉

Here's a free lesson to show you how it works in your music classroom here 👉 https://funmusicco.com/classroom-music-theory/

Have you ever built a lesson around a YouTube video… and then one day it was just gone?

Not because you did anything wrong.

Just because the rules changed overnight — and nobody warned you.

There's a lot happening behind the scenes with YouTube play-alongs and pop songs that most music teachers never get told about.

And some of it could affect your lessons more than you realise.

What do you actually need to know before you build another lesson around someone else's music?

We've written a full guide breaking it all down, the copyright side, the quality side, and what to look for in any music resource you use.

Read about it starting with this FREE guide called " Play-Alongs, Pop Songs, and Copyright: What Every Music Teacher Should Understand here: https://funmusicco.com/play-alongs-pop-songs-and-copyright/

What if your music curriculum was holding a few surprises you hadn't found yet?

Not because you missed them. Just because nobody pointed them out.

At a recent event with our curriculum members, something came up that got me thinking.

It made me ask a question I want to ask you today:

What do you already have… that you don't yet know about?

In Episode 72 of The Spark for Music Teachers, I'm sharing a few stories — some funny, some a little humbling — about the time-savers already inside your music curriculum that are easy to overlook when you're busy.

This one's a quick listen. But I have a feeling it'll stay with you.

Most online training events pack in hundreds of people and push lots of different speakers.

This one does not.

Fun Music LIVE is deliberately small. Four days. Two hours a day. Live questions answered in real time by the same two people who built the entire curriculum system.

Not a summit.
Not a replay library.
Not a course you will never finish.

A room where you actually get to ask the thing you have been too afraid to ask.

Tickets are $99. Starting Monday.

If that sounds like what you have been looking for, register here:

Imagine opening a music curriculum document and actually feeling confident.

No jargon. No guilt. No 3am rabbit holes trying to figure out what it all means.

Just clarity. A clear picture of what good music teaching actually looks like — and the reassurance that yes, you can do this, even without a music degree.

That's exactly what Episode 71 of The Spark for Music Teachers is designed to give you.

I'm breaking down what a genuinely good K–6 music curriculum looks like, and the 3 things most documents get wrong — so you can stop second-guessing yourself and start teaching music with real confidence.

What do a bog, a bodhrán, and a pop band from Dundalk have in common?

They're all part of one of the most fun music lessons you'll teach all year!

☘️ March 17th is the perfect excuse to take your K-6 students on a musical journey through Ireland — and we've made it ridiculously easy for you.

Our newly updated St. Patrick's Day Music Lesson gives you THREE ready-to-use activities:

🥁 Explore Irish instruments — from the bodhrán to the Celtic harp, with an interactive classroom game your students can play together

🎵 Perform "The Rattlin' Bog" — a fast-paced cumulative folk song that has kids laughing, singing, and begging to do it again

🎸 Discover The Corrs — and show your older students how ancient Irish traditions are alive and kicking in modern music
The best part? You don't need to be an Irish music expert.

Everything is prepared and waiting for you inside the Fun Music Company members area — lesson presentations, play-along video, worksheets, and more.

You'll find it here: 👉 https://funmusicco.com/creating-a-st-patricks-day-music-lesson/

❤️ Valentine's Day falls on Saturday this year.

But this doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun of it all!

If you’re looking to fill in a few minutes for Friday’s lessons, we’ve got a selection of fun ideas as V- Day approaches ❤️

This little swipe-file includes:

🔥A matching game that gets kids listening to different genres without realizing they're learning appreciation

🔥A worksheet activity that challenges assumptions about people and music (spoiler: the tattooed guy might love classical)

🔥A ukulele play-along to Lava that channels all that Valentine energy into something musical

You're not failing at teaching ukulele. Your lesson plan is.

We see teachers beating themselves up because their students lose focus after two weeks. They think they're not musical enough.

They spend hours cobbling together YouTube videos.

But here's what we've learned after twenty years and having hundreds of teachers use our ukulele programs.

The problem isn't you. It's that most ukulele programs only teach ONE thing:

Chords.

And when you only teach chords, three things happen fast:

Students get bored. Their fingers get sore. They feel like quitting.

Here's what actually works. Three pillars:

Start with chords, but don't stop there.

Add melody playing so it feels like a game, not a chore. Students want to solve the puzzle. They want to hear the tune come out right.

Bring it together with ensemble playing. This is where the magic happens. When students play and sing as a group, they're doing something they can't do alone at home. They're not just learning an instrument anymore. They're actually becoming musicians who love to learn.

That's the shift from "I'm not musical enough" to "I'm the guide they need."

We wrote about this and have free ready-to-teach resources in the complete guide here:
