OK, it’s probably true, that one monkey don’t steal no show - but what will happen when about five or six dozen of these sneaky and intelligent creatures run rampant through the sonic fields of Voodoo Vinyl’s airtime next Saturday night and Sunday morning?

Will we be able to contain their exuberance and mischief when so many of those party-loving primates will be released from their constraints and let loose in one place for five or so hours of unfettered freedom…?

Tune into Three D from 11:00 on Saturday night - and ready yourself for some musical fun and games with a host of your nearest whoopin' and hollerin' simian relatives when Voodoo Vinyl sets out to tackle the theme of ‘Monkeys’!

The blizzard has stopped! And after the whiteout came to its conclusion, we discovered we needed to call on all the snow ploughs in Adelaide to come and clear a path from the back door to the station’s car park so that we could get home after our most recent Voodoo Vinyl show - such was the intensity of the aural snowstorm that was unleashed for 5 hours or so on the Three D Radio airwaves last weekend.

Whilst the constant stream of cool snowy tuneage didn’t exactly achieve one of its more subversive aims - to fill Mark with seasonal cheer and feelings of goodwill to Bono and Kamahl - it did, nevertheless, kick off Christmas week pretty well, I think.

We’ll be back next Saturday with a new theme - and one that’s not in the slightest way related to Christmas - once we’ve all had our fill of whatever seasonal celebrations we've chosen to indulge in.

So have a great week everyone and enjoy yourselves!

And here’s the barrage of snowballs we chucked at you in our latest show which is still available for you all to hear on the station’s listener app at any time over the next few weeks:

Last week I had to remind Mark that Christmas was nearly upon us - he doesn’t ‘do’ dates so apparently had no idea what time of year it was.

Regular listeners will know that he has a tendency to break out in hives when a Christmas song plays so we have not, and will not, do Christmas themed shows - ever…

However, a couple of years back, I introduced the subversive notion that we could do themes that were sort of linked to the season without overtly being too Christmassy.

For instance. last year, I suggested ‘peace’ as a theme and we got a really good show out of that without having to bloody-mindedly oppose the prevailing zeitgeist just for the hell of it.

In that spirit, I have put forward the idea that ‘snow’ might toss up more than just a few listenable tracks this week, and the veto committee (of one) saw it as an acceptable notion.

So ‘let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…’

(Oh yeah, and Merry Christmas everyone!)

So ‘locks & keys’ have been stashed away in the archives and the two shows on the topic will soon become a fond distant memory as we venture ever onward in our quest for new theme ideas..

Last night’s stack digging effort provided another interesting show albeit with a bit more hard rock than usual, with a semi-regular smattering of old blues recordings to offset that noisy riffola.

Here is the list of locksmith’s delights from Voodoo Vinyl’s latest thematic trawl:

Last weekend’s first instalment of locks and keys was a bit of a mixed bag with some chosen tracks standing out as deserving to be locked in for many future plays, whereas there were a couple that sounded like keys being used to loudly carve ugly scratches across the shiny duco of our consciousness…

Let’s hope that this coming weekend’s selection avoid any further need for visits to the spray-painter’s lair!

Here’s the fully unlocked list of tunes we played:

Apparently, the key to maximising the amount of listeners to our show, so all the marketing experts tell us, is to lock in the theme for your event early which will then allow for the optimal level of excitement and expectation to build up!

So here we are, taking that advice on board readily - and literally - and announcing at the start of the week that our theme for the coming weekend (and possibly the one following that) will be ‘locks and keys’…

Now lock it in to your listening schedule, folks!

Without having directly discussed it, I think we have both agreed, after an exploration of a large cross sample of albums over the last couple of weeks, that the majority of the titles featured on Mojo’s ‘Buried Treasure’ pages over the years are definitely worthy of reassessment and a contemporary appreciation.

I know that there are more than a few of the albums that we have (re)discovered through preparing these playlists that I will not be reinterring and these will, instead, find themselves on a more regular listening rotation from now on…

Here’s the treasure chest of sampled tracks we played this week:

20/11/2025

Over the course of many years now, British music magazine, Mojo, has featured a one page column in each issue entitled ‘Buried Treasure’.

The aim of the column is to bring to you, and their wider readers’ attentions, albums which were unfairly overlooked on release, or initially critically maligned, and bring them back into the collective consciousness for contemporary reappraisal.

Quite often, across 320 or more of these columns to date, the magazine has featured albums on this page that have already been favourites of ours but, at other times, it has presented oddities that have encouraged us to seek out these records and judge their worth for ourselves - sometimes that judgement has been favourable and at other times not…

So we have set ourselves the task over the next two weeks to dig out a few dozen each of the albums that have made these 'Buried Treasure' pages and present them to you so you can also make up your minds as to whether you think digging them out for further investigations of your own may be a worthwhile exercise.

It should be a wild ride!

Tune in to Three D Radio (93.7fm) from 11:00pm this Saturday to check out our selections...

16/11/2025

Moonmadness reigned supreme in the Three D Radio studios last night as we set out to prove the theory that the earth has (many) more moons than just the one that you can see from your particular vantage point at any given time.

We think we successfully established, by providing aural proof, that there are at least five or six dozen of those satellite globes simultaneously hanging around up there somewhere in the heavens, and that all of them have inspired songwriters to pen odes to them during the course of the last century and a quarter or so.

Whilst a couple of glitches in the running order may have been problematic for the purists amongst the listening audience, we think that these momentary lapses in sequence were ultimately eclipsed by the sheer collective luminosity of all the musical moons we explored!

If you missed our exploratory soundspace flight, you can still catch the show during the week as we orbit back through your sector on the station's listener app which is available at any time on the Three D website!
