9 years ago today, TILMAN ROBINSON’s spellbinding album “Deer Heart” was released. A marked left-turn, from a label that loves to make a few of them. It quickly took on a life of its own, finding fans the world over. Bandcamp and niche blogs became an important jumping point. Throwback to the iPhone 4 era 📱💿

Back then, Hobbledehoy teamed up with a crafty Canadian to make phone covers entirely from recycled thrift-store vinyl. Even the white Hobbledehoy logo was cut from a white record.

They sold out fast, we pressed a quick second run, and just like my high school bands CD-R "release", they were gone forever.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 💡 CASPIAN Hailing from Massachusetts, USA, setting a benchmark for their fierce intelligence musically and humility as a band. Hobbledehoy proudly released the albums "Waking Season" and "Dust & Disquiet". What a joy it was working with these lovely humans a decade or so ago. (Coming back to Australia in December!) I still think about that time on the final night of tour in that crowded, abrasive, Adelaide club... when Phil insisted on teaching me how to eat a beer.

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT 💡 FOURTEEN NIGHTS AT SEA . RIP. Sometimes things just happen. And sometimes they just can’t. Such was the fate of Melbourne 6 piece Fourteen Nights At Sea, graciously bowing out with their swan songs Artefacts and Black Maps. Their first recordings with vocalist/guitarist Amy Muir. Seeing these songs being performed live outside, opening for Beach House at the Adelaide Festival and knowing it was the last time I would watch a FNAS was terribly bittersweet. Alongside them since 2012, the band had now hit yet another a new level. It was mesmerising. Spooky, noisey, slow and abrasive. They would often carefully curate shows and champion young and underrepresented artists. Photo is of Lara shredding, which also features on the b-side of their final 12". I love you all 🖤
