"Barry White Sings for Someone You Love" is the self-produced seventh album by soul singer Barry White, released in 1977 on the 20th Century label.
The album topped the R&B albums chart, White's first to do so since 1975. It also reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200, his second to reach the top ten.
The album yielded two Billboard R&B Top Ten singles, "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me", which peaked at No. 1, and "Playing Your Game, Baby".
"Playing..." is a classic BW slow-burner. Beautiful horns line to open the track, followed by the rock-solid drummers' groove. You can play this anywhere and it sounds amazing. Our favourite part is whenever it drops back to the intro lines, following a snare strike. So good.
"It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" was also a hit on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 4.
"Ecstasy..." is a killer groove with an incredible drawn-out intro. We love the way it stomps along at a stepper pace but with lush production. Impossible to keep still while it's playing. It's probably Nick's fav BW tune (tied with "Your Sweetness is my Weakness").
Recognise the sample for Robbie Williams' "Rock DJ"?
