2025 Barracker sponsored CDFC player - Jonah Pyman

The Barracker has been sponsoring Barossa, Light and Gawler footballing exports at the Central District Football Club for a quarter of a century.
Among the players we have supported over this journey include the three Westhoff siblings, Leigh, Justin and Matthew, along with returning Nuriootpa star three-time Norm Russell Medallist Jarrod Schiller and his brother Travis.
Angaston young gun Louis Hadden, Tanunda talents Jez McLennan and Shay Linke also have been among them, along with Rhett Montgomerie.
South Gawler’s Kane Officer was one of the first the Barracker sponsored.
For the 2025 campaign, the Barracker Sponsored footballer is Jonah Pyman.
Pyman is from the strong Barossa District junior program and has been in the junior ranks at the Ponderosa for the past four seasons, moving up to the reserves this year.
He last played a full campaign at the Barossa District Club in 2021.
He played a season in the Under 16s in 2022. In 2023 and 2024 Pyman was a member of the Under 18s program playing in the heart-breaking 2024 Grand Final loss to the Eagles.
“I started my juniors at Barossa,” Jonah Pyman told the Barracker.
“We played in a couple Under 15 Grand Final wins and I was captain of the second one.
“I went on to be invited out to play under 16s at Centrals after association and zone championship wins.
“I played a couple of seasons of Under16s. There were also two Under 18s campaigns.
“In the second season I did a pair of AC joint strains sitting me out for roughly eight weeks.
“I returned in time for a few regular season games and played in all finals including the losing Grand Final side.
“Currently, I’m playing reserves at the Ponderosa with older brother Cooper.”
Pyman plays as a small defender who can matchup on a tall dangerous forward if required by his coaches.
Noted for being strong in one-on-one contests, Pyman’s weapon is his foot skills which he like to use to shift the ball and set up attacking plays to move the ball forward to score.
Elizabeth Oval and the Central District Football Club is a family affair for the Pyman clan.
Cooper and Jonah’s grandfather Trevor Pyman who was recruited from Salisbury Magpies Football Club have been keys at the Bulldogs.
Trevor was a CDFC Colts captain and played Reserves for the Bulldogs before they entered the league competition, along with being a Foundation member of the Central District Football Club.
The boy’s father Chris Pyman was recruited from Barossa District Football Club by Alan Stewart. He played all four grades at the Ponderosa and made his league debut under Neil Kerley in 1989.
In total, Chris played 88 league games, was a member of the 1989 Bulldog Reserves Premiership and the 1995 League Grand Final against Port. He was a team-first, tough, hard-hitting lock down defender.

It is with immense sadness we heard of the sudden passing of Peter 'Chimpy' Reichstein ...
He service and loyalty to the South Gawler Football Club and the Barossa Light & Gawler Football Association was outstanding -
Our thoughts are with his family.

My first football heroes - as a little kid I just wanted to play like them ...
1975 Angaston Football Club Senior Colts premiership team - 50 year reunion - tomorrow!
Coached by Milky Johnson (who is in the one game SANFL league club), the best junior footballer I ever saw (maybe a little bias) Kym "Worm" Lehmann was captain.
They could play - this cohort of Panthers - Peter O'Neill, John Roesler, David Williams, the late Gordon Brooks, the France brothers - Michael and Richard, Hookers Falkenberg, David Wall, Peter Rasmus, the late Gordon Brooks, Glen (Rowdy) Schultz, Kym 'Toad' Schmidt, John Batten, the toughest guy on Jubilee Avenue Grant Roesler, Keith Binding, Graham LePage, Andrew Rutter, Kym Bouts, Chris Williams, Peter Rasmus, et al.
They knocked off Tanunda at Freeling Oval
Still heroes a half a century later!!!
