We Used to Shoot Whales, Now We Shoot Movies"

The Great Southern Film Co-Operative, founded by author and filmmaker Adam Morris, unites individuals, businesses, and arts patrons across Western Australia in their shared commitment to nurturing independent Australian cinema. With the goal of producing one film annually for the next decade, the Co-Op has garnered substantial support since its incept

ion, notably from Bendigo Bank Albany, The Hilton Hotel, Stirling Ranges Beef, Lucky Bay Brewery and The City of Albany. The Great Southern Feature Film Co-Op actively engages individuals, businesses, and arts patrons from across WA in contributing to the realization of Adam Morris's independent feature films. These projects operate autonomously from government funding, relying entirely on the generous support of the Great Southern Co-Op community. Functioning as a community-driven initiative, the Co-Op collaborates with local businesses and arts communities, spotlighting the cultural richness and scenic beauty in and around Albany. This collaborative effort ensures that films are created independently of government funding, sustained solely by the contributions of dedicated supporters. Driven by a commitment to growth and community impact, the Co-Op channels its efforts into community screenings, promoting on-screen representation, empowering the next generation of local filmmakers through skill-building programs, and showcasing local facilities and talent. Contributions from businesses offering financial or in-kind support, as well as one-time donations from individuals, are warmly welcomed to play a pivotal role in portraying and celebrating the local community on-screen.

Post-production is moving along nicely. Enjoying creating some nice eye-candy with the colour-grading. Definitely not an expert, but learning a lot along the way - would probably make some professional colour-graders shudder in horror! 🤣 🤷

Sound is coming up next.

Myles is excited about Albany filmed Frederickstown release and the next movie to be filmed there Crushed film in 2026

“What have you got coming up for the rest of 2026 and beyond? Are any more films coming out or other projects we can keep an eye out for?
I’ve got a film called Frederickstown coming out, starring Peter Rowsthorn, Travis Jeffery and myself. It was written and directed by Adam Morris, who also cast me in Frank and Frank. Label Distribution is on board for the release, and I’ve also been cast in Adam’s next film, Crushed, which is close to being financed.”

🎉 Paul “Sheepdog” Kitching — runner, driver, artwork creator— celebrating both his vital on-set contributions and his artistic skills.

During your Low Lie the Fields April 2026 filming in Albany, Sheepdog not only supported the cast and crew with logistics and transport but also surprised everyone with his own visual-arts talent, presenting a hand-drawn piece of incredible artwork to all cast and crew that wowed everyone on set. That’s an awesome story of creativity and community spirit!
