A Little Update From a Very Different Chapter of My Life ❤️
For those who have known me through my years in web design, you’ll know that it was a huge part of my life. Leaving it behind was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, and starting something completely different was both scary and exciting.
But sometimes life takes you somewhere you never expected to go.
I now work with elderly people, including people living with dementia, as well as people living with disability. My role is about helping people socialise, feel included, improve their wellbeing and, most importantly, enjoy the moment they are in.
There is something incredibly special about seeing someone smile, laugh or light up simply because you spent time with them, listened to them or helped them experience something they enjoy.
And then there is music. ❤️
I bring music to them, and the response can be amazing. Sometimes they cry. Sometimes they close their eyes and listen. Most of the time, they sing along or dance just by moving their feet.
They may not remember what happened yesterday, but play a song from their childhood or one connected to a special memory, and suddenly the words come pouring out as though they learned them yesterday.
It’s honestly unreal.
It has changed the way I see people, ageing, disability, memory and even life itself. I’ve learned that connection doesn’t always need words. Sometimes it’s a smile, a look in someone’s eyes, a song, a laugh or simply sharing a moment together.
Even when someone can only communicate through their eyes, those small changes can say so much. You might see their eyes light up, focus on you, follow the music, or simply relax as they listen. Sometimes there are no words or movements, but you can see that something has reached them. Those moments are incredibly powerful.
And the skills I gained throughout my years working in digital marketing are still very much a part of my life. I now use those skills to teach my new clients how to use technology, help them navigate their phones, tablets and computers, and make things a little easier for them.
I absolutely love it! ❤️
To everyone who has been part of my FortesDesign journey, thank you. ❤️
Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, working with me and being part of such an important chapter of my life. The skills, experiences and friendships I gained through those years have all helped shape where I am today.
I never imagined that leaving web design would lead me to see the world in such a different way.
And I’m so grateful for where this new chapter has taken me. ❤️ thank you for being part of my journey 🙏
