The Garden of Reflection is open to all residents of Mparntwe / Alice Springs.

Today is National Sorry Day - a time to pause and reflect on the trauma, loss and impact caused by Australia’s historical systematic child removal policies.

It’s also important to acknowledge the strength and resilience of the Stolen Generations survivors, as well as the need for healing – individually and collectively.

The Garden of Reflection of Desert Knowledge Precinct was created to be a living memorial of the Stolen Generations in Central Australia - a place for quiet reflection and peaceful contemplation about this time in our history.

Fantastic news from our Precinct partner Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education RTO 0383

🚨 Big News for Remote Communities 🚨

Batchelor Institute proudly welcomes the joint announcement by the Northern Territory Government and the Australian Government of a $25.4 million investment to establish the Regional and Remote Essential Care Services Centre of Excellence (RRECS) — in partnership with Charles Darwin University and the Northern Territory Government.

The RRECS Centre of Excellence will operate through training hubs in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, with mobile training units to ensure accessibility in remote areas. This aligns with Batchelor Institute’s mission to provide culturally responsive education, building a skilled workforce that honours Indigenous Australian knowledge and values.

The initiative will enhance training opportunities through a Higher Apprenticeship Pathway, addressing qualification gaps and fostering sustainable careers. Mobile training units, fast-tracked by additional government funding, will bring education to remote learners, ensuring no one is left behind. We’re proud to walk alongside CDU and the NT Government in honouring Indigenous knowledge and creating real change through education.

Are you looking for something to keep the kids entertained these school holidays?

Did you know you can come out to the Desert Knowledge Precinct and see some cool stuff?

When you first come through the gates, you can turn right and have a look at the largest multi-technology solar demonstration facility in the Southern Hemisphere at the Desert Knowledge Australia Solar Centre. There is loads of interesting information, and you can walk around the 40 different installations.

Get back in your car and drive to the Visitor Carpark then to the left of the buildings is the Garden of Reflection. The Garden was established as a living memorial of the Stolen Generations in Central Australia, a place for quiet reflection and peaceful contemplation about the history and the impacts of child removal policies of the past.

After that you can pop into the Treat Me Good Cafe & Catering for some cake and a coffee, fresh rolls or hot food and cold drinks.

Then head north and sit in the shaded areas for amazing views of the Eastern MacDonnell Ranges and the Centre for Appropriate Technology Space Precinct. The Space Precinct is the first and only Aboriginal-owned Satellite Ground Station in Australia which is part of a global network of Real Time Earth stations. These satellites provide data for disaster management for all around the world. The rain free days, low light pollution, stable atmospheric conditions and clear night skies in Alice Springs makes the conditions perfect for space observation and satellite communication

While you’re out here, you may also see some wildlife and keep any eye out for Autumn flowering wildflowers.

Enjoy the Desert Knowledge Precinct!
