We love country music on 2AD.

As country music lovers, we feel a great loss today with the passing of Dolly Parton. Dolly was an iconic musician, actress, and philanthropist, and was considered the ‘Queen of Country'.

Dolly’s music has been a staple of country music for decades; her voice has inspired many. Dolly wrote her first song at just 6 years old, started performing regularly on TV at 10, and she began her professional career when she was 16. Her career spanned 60 years, and in that time, she released 49 studio albums. Her biggest hits include ‘I Will Always Love You’, which was popularised by Whitney Houston’s cover, ' 9 to 5 ', which has been a working-class anthem since its release, and, of course, Jolene.

While her music career is legendary, her commitment to humanitarianism solidified her as an angel in the hearts of many. The Dollywood Foundation, launched in 1988, aimed to decrease high school dropout rates in her home state of Tennessee. The Dollywood Foundation not only reduced high school dropout rates but also increased literacy and contributed to the preservation of Bald Eagles. In 2025, the foundation reached 300 million books donated since 1995.
‎ ‎ ‎
Across her career, Dolly raised money for victims of a number of natural disasters and environmental efforts; she also donated money to hospitals and charities like the Salvation Army. Dolly was truly an impressive philanthropist.
‎ ‎
Dolly’s passing is a great loss for all. She truly made the world a better place.

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain!”
― Dolly Parton
