1134 2AD is based in Armidale on the New England Highway halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, within easy reach of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. The area is surrounded by World Heritage National Parks, several spectacular waterfalls and plentiful flora and fauna. Armidale is part of the New England known around the world for it's super fine wool, fat lambs and cattle, plus the headquarters for

many cattle breed societies. Our broadcast licensed area's cover Walcha, Uralla, Guyra and Armidale. Our 2AD format is targeted to the 40's and over population mixing talk back, including John Laws as well as easy listening music from the 60's to 90's predominantly. 2AD's first broadcast was on February 5th 1936 with a potential listening audience of around 42,000 people. Catch Peter Raymond from 6am-9am, then again between 12pm-2pm, followed by Tara Alford from 2pm-5:30pm!

Ben Lomond Landcare Group hosted more than 25 people at their Progressive Sustainable Agriculture and Food workshops on Saturday, the 13th of September.

Speakers at the event were Brian Marshall, a retired holistic management educator and a Ben Lomond local, Heidi McElnea, a qualified permaculturist, and Campbell Wolfenden from Guyra Rural Services.

Brian presented on land function, ecosystem processes, tools for managing land to meet objectives, overgrazing and recovery times, as well as planning for cash surplus and monitoring ecological health.

Heidi spoke on animal and plant food systems, cycling waste into resources, leveraging permaculture design, and fostering backyard biodiversity.

Campbell demonstrated the use of practical tools such as a refractometer and soil sampler to help farmers better understand their soils and pastures.

The event had 25 attendees, with all feedback extremely positive. Many commented that it was a great afternoon, jam-packed with practical ideas and plenty of opportunities for discussion.

Ben Lomond Landcare Group is very satisfied with the feedback, and they are aiming to run a follow-up session later this year. Anyone interested in attending the said session or finding out more is encouraged to get in touch with the group.

Guyra Landcare Network has announced that Graem Sait, an international educator in soil health, plant nutrition, and regenerative farming, will deliver a workshop in Ben Lomond.

Graem is the co-founder of Nutri-Tech Solutions (NTS), a world leader in sustainable agriculture, education and products, and was last in the New England region in 2007.

Gaemes' focus is on the practical application of regenerative principles that build profitability, resilience, and long-term productivity on a farm.

The Soil Health and Your Wealth – Profit Building with Minerals, Microbes, and Humus workshop is a half-day session, providing a condensed introduction to Sait’s acclaimed Certificate in Nutrition Farming course.

The workshop will be held on 4th October in Ben Lomond. Tickets are available through the Southern New England Landcare website.

NSW Ambulance Appreciation Day is TOMORROW!

From 11am - 2pm tomorrow (Friday September 19), the Armidale Ambulance Station will be open to the public!

Locals will have the opportunity to step inside, meet their local paramedics, and learn more about the incredible work they do on a daily basis.

Visitors can look forward to live demonstrations, hands - on activities, and a close look at the specialised equipment our ambulances use!

There will also be fun activities and giveaways for the kids! AND the chance to try CPR!

No RSVP required - just show up between 11am and 2pm!

The Australian Army Band are coming to Armidale!!

The group will have 2 local performances on the day,

* a lunchtime performance in the Beardy Street Mall
* an evening concert at the Armidale Town Hall @ 6:30pm

The concert will feature something from everyone, from toe-tapping favourites to stirring classics, all delivered with the band's trademark energy and flair.

Entry is by donation, with proceeds supporting the Country Women's Association.

Marking the start of the bushfire season, Fire Brigades across the New England are coming together for the ‘Get Ready Weekend’, an annual event aimed at helping residents and landowners prepare for emergencies.

The Armidale Fire Control Centre is hosting such an event this Saturday, September 20th, between 9 am and 4 pm, where they will offer Operations Centre tours, fire truck and aviation displays, a sausage sizzle and loads of information for adults and kids.

There is a similar event being held at the Invergowrie Store from 10 am to 3 pm on Sunday, 21st September.
