The Warts. These infectious critters exist somewhere between post-punk and space rock (or is that intergalactic rock?). Yet they defy attempts to define... Whatever the genre, the brothers Wart certainly don't subscribe to any notions of sanitised musical ordinariness. We've just mixed and mastered their latest masterpiece ''The Prawn Sniffers' - destined for greatness on a compilation album. So dust off your turntables. This one is releasing on glorious old-school vinyl!

Armidale's legendary gentlemen of rock are back in the studio. This time The Axemen are working on a ruthful ballad penned by frontman Rick. This track will not disappoint: it features some fine guitar artistry from the brothers Streeting, commanding vocals from Rick, ultra-smooth bass from Nick, all nicely anchored in the solid stick-work of Paul on the Sonors.
We'll have the track on Spotify in a couple of weeks.
Also, you'll be able to catch The Axemen live at the afterparty for the Big Chill Festival (18-19 May)!!

Jason deCleene
Congrats to singer-songwriter Jason deCleene on the completion of his album 'Peace Trees', recorded in Sydney and edited/mastered at Beechwood. Peace Trees is a sojourn of life from the intimate moments to the gritty stuff. Jason's guitar work supports his vocals with evocative and sometimes wistful melodic phrases - sometimes raw, sometimes spacious.

It was great to have singer/songwriter Elizabeth Rae drop in to Beechwood last week from Queensland. Elizabeth and husband Tom were heading to the Tamworth Country Music Festival where she was on-stage for an hour on Saturday afternoon. Daniel Robert William Bale
It is with profound sadness that we announce the devastating news of Daniel’s death. Daniel was a victim of a road accident near Queanbeyan a few days before Christmas. As his parents, we are completely heart-broken. But his passing also has a significant impact on Beechwood Studio. He was a key member of the Beechwood team: recording/monitoring engineer, digital media specialist, session drummer, arranger and programmer.

Dan was known for his generous contributions to music wherever he went. In the Armidale/Northwest region he played in a jazz outfit, a church band, Armidale Brass Band, Musical Society ensembles, Armidale Symphony Orchestra, and Opera in the Paddock. In Sydney he played for several musical societies, pub and church bands, and various conferences and events at Stanwell Tops. In Canberra, Dan produced School musicals, played at various church events, and recently joined the well-known Canberra band The Griffs.

Alongside his gigging, Daniel was also incredibly creative: composing music, creating sound-scapes, and recording some amusing covers of a few old standards.

Dan will be deeply, deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the many albums, clips and other projects he brought his magic to. We extend our love and support to his wife and all the family. In the words of his sisters: “The world is a darker, more boring, less caffeinated, less punctuated, more broken, less musical, less forgiving and loving place without you...so grateful for every single beautiful moment”.

Daniel’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service in Canberra on January 15th. There will also be a gathering of remembrance at Beechwood (Armidale) at a date to be announced.

Lochkey
After several studio sessions, Lochkey has an original track in its final stages. It features a cast of Armidale's finest musos (Jack, Caleb, Rob, Warwick!), with elements of jazz, folk and classical. The video clip will be released in a couple of weeks.
