Wow! what a find. Goomboora Park on Shale St in Brinsmead, is located about 10mins west of Cairns.

What makes this place awesome is the range of spaces for you and your furkids to enjoy.

There's heaps of off lead running space, a croc free river with flowing water to play in, shaded seating, plenty of parking and toilets.

We were particularly touched by the memorial tree ... a tribute to those who had crossed the rainbow bridge.

The kids playground is of course a dog free zone and well sign posted.

This place is packed full of dogs so if yours isn't social probably best to keep them on lead.

.. and so that ends our 4 day toot around Port Douglas.

If you're heading up to Port Douglas we can also recommend Beach Stays for clean, comfortable, dog friendly accommodation with secure fencing ... and a heap of places or tips for eating out with dogs.

As always feel free to DM us any questions you have about travelling with dogs in FNQ.

We set off this morning to explore the Daintree, understanding the limitations of travelling with dogs in an area that is largely national park.

First stop was the Daintree Village. We took a quick stroll around but it's a pretty quiet scene.

Waiting at the Cape Tribulation River Ferry crossing, it was amusing to see some blokes fishing in a tinny that had 'Tipsy' spray painted on the side. Tipsy in a croc inhabited river never sounds like a good idea 🐊.

We'd also like to acknowledge the ferry traffic control officer who professionally directed us to drive straight off the ferry ... just a recap ... croc infested water to the left ... croc infested water to the right ... driving straight onto dry land seems like a sound plan 😂.

While in the Daintree, we visited the Daintree Icecream Factory. It's a really nice spot to visit and I can highly recommend the black sapote icecream for something different.

Cow Bay Beach is dog friendly but again with crocs around, you need the keep the furkids on lead and away from the water.

Next stop was the Daintree Discovery Centre. The staff were great and very politely allowed us to bring the furkids in for a cup of coffee. The skywalk would have been great to experience, and an activity we could have done separately, but decided to come back another time.

Finally, we explored Warri Wetlands in Port Douglas which yep also had crocs. This walk was a let down as it's essentially 100m walk along a storm drain bordered a gated community.

But a walk along the beach ended the day on a high.

Tomorrow ends our Port Douglas long weekend.

After the markets, Port Douglas turned up the heat so we picked up a platter from the Smoke House Deli and picnicked indoors.

About 5.30pm we headed out to the Flagstaff Hill walking trail; a 'must do' if you're visiting the region.

Having done this walk in both directions, here's our tips ...

🏝 Start at the 4 Mile Beach end, pass through the Rex Smeal Park, ending by walking through the main drag of town. The views are nicer and the sea breeze is cooling after your walk.

🏝 Wear a decent pair of walking shoes, the path has a few steps and is rocky in some parts.

🏝 Detour up more stairs to the link which takes you to the look out. You could drive but where's the challenge in that?

🏝 Take heaps of photos, the view is spectacular.

🏝 Stop to admire the trees there's so many interesting species.

🏝 Grab an icecream or cocktail on your way back through town.ðŸļ

All up we walked for about 1.5 hours but stopped heaps along the way. Anyone with a reasonable level of fitness can do this walk but it will lift your heart rate a little 😊

Tomorrow we're off to explore the Daintree Village.

This long weekend we are tootling a little further north to Port Douglas, Mossman, the Daintree and surrounds.

After grabbing a morning coffee at one of fave caffine dealers Origin Espresso - Port Douglas we drove 15 mins to the Mossman Markets.

Every man and his dog was there this morning which was a good opportunity to work on Teak's reactivity skills. There was plenty of fresh tropical fruit and crafts up for grabs ... and we bought and few beaut plants to add to the garden.

helped us find a local swimming hole in Shannonvale about 10 mins from Port Douglas.

It's a picturesque spot with cool, shallow water and plenty of shade but also very close to the road ... so be alert for passing cars if your furkids are chasers.

Next up ... We have a romantic picnic for 4 😉 planned and a walk up the to the Flagstaff Hill, Port Douglas

Since moving to the Tablelands we've been on the search for someone that does canine massage or alike ... so we were totally stoked to come across the healing hands of Gill's Holistic Animal Therapies

Gill did muscle release therapy (think Bowen therapy) on our 11 year old boy Harley to assist with his arthritic discomfort and our 3 year old Teak to relax her from her high drive.

Both dogs responded really well to Gill's energy, relaxed during their treatment then slept for 4 hours solid.

Thanks Gill âĪïļ ðŸū we look forward to your magic hands supporting our furkids again.
