Empower yourself against cyber threats.
A small effort can make a big difference.
Cybercrime remains a significant threat to Australians, with a cybercrime reported every 6 minutes.
Reports to ASD show that cybercriminals are causing significant financial losses for individuals. Last financial year, the average self-reported cost of cybercrime rose to $30,700 per report. The top cybercrimes reported by individuals were: identity fraud, online shopping fraud and online banking fraud.
Basic cyber security is the best defence against cybercrime. We encourage all Australians to:
• turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) for accounts
• use long, unique passphrases for each account if MFA is not available
• check automatic updates are on and install new updates as soon as possible
• back up important files and device settings regularly
• be alert for phishing messages and scams that could be targeting your information or money.
