Weekend Windback to this wild showdown two years back – when two male Eastern Brown Snakes went head-to-head in Eppalock, thrashing, twisting, and locking up in a fierce battle for a local lady! 🐍🐍
What looked like a deadly fight to the untrained eye was actually a bit of snake romance in action – a ritual combat dance, proving who was boss before mating season. Nature’s own version of UFC, with scales, fangs, and zero referees! 🐍🐍
Check this out!
Two male Eastern Brown Snakes battling it out for a local female.
This is known as 'ritual combat'
Combat is often mistaken for mating however there are a couple of key differences in the body posture and behavior that tells us the difference.
The tightly intertwined bodies and the rearing of the heads (in order to dominate the opposing male) are two key things to look out for.
Thankyou to page follower Tim for sending this to me and giving me permission to share the photo.
