Act Up was started as a branch of a production company that we are building (several short films and a feature in pre production) primarily aimed at kids and young adults but as I talk to more adult actors the biggest issue they have is not knowing why, when they get an audition, they don't get a call back let alone the role. I know what I am looking for when I am casting, I know what will get you
noticed by the casting director.....
So now, I am also teaching classes for adult actors that WANT TO BE WORKING. Many actors pick up bad habits and are unaware of what they are doing wrong, it can be fixed, I teach how to stand out, how to think outside the box and how to submit a totally unique audition. If you're sick of waiting to hear on a role and being disappointed yet again, book in for a term, but be warned,
these classes are for those with passion that are serious about getting to a professional/employable skill level, I will teach you the tools you need and how to use them but you have to be prepared to put in the work, however, the pay off is worth it when the casting directors actually start ASKING to see you, leaving an impression that sticks with a casting director is what gets you cast. With our younger actors, what we do is teach our students, how to become a great actor, to have a strong sense of self, how to relax in front of a camera and how to have faith in their instincts. Every child learns differently so we specialize in finding what works best for each student rather than the one size fits all/one method across the board approach, so everyone learns how to develop characters, breakdown scripts and use their imagination to submerge themselves into a make believe world, we see our kids do this when they play so the trick is getting them to do THAT with someone else’s words. We mentor each student (and parents) in how to navigate their way into and through the entertainment industry, if working professionally is the goal. That is everything from getting auditions, head shots, creating a show reel, getting an agent and how a professional set runs.
