*** Intermittent TV reception issues in Jervis Bay area ***
DEC 2025
Tropospheric or "seasonal" ducting is causing pixelation and dropouts again for anyone with a North facing antenna in and around JB. Worst affected areas are Hyams Beach, Vincentia and Huskisson. Forecast indicates that it'll be pretty hit and miss for TV reception for at least the next 5-6 days. Unfortunately nothing can be done to improve the situation (if it's purely related to ducting) and it's something that we put up with around this time every year when the weather starts to heat up and the conditions are right (wrong 😉).
Included is a pic of the forecast situation around the 9th DEC (The red blotch off the south coast is what is causing us issues).

*** Bayswood/ Vincentia Opticomm FYI ***

For homes in the stage 1 area of Bayswood the FTA (Free To Air) signal may be received via the fiber service currently provided by Opticomm (formerly Telstra Velocity).Opticomm has recently indicated that it will cease priority support of FTA services from 1st Oct 25 and will cease provision from 1st Feb 26. To continue receiving a FTA signal in the absence of the current service you will need to install an external FTA antenna to pick up the carriers transmitted over the air (from either the Illawarra or Ulladulla transmitters. In most cases the internal cabling already in your house will need little to no modification and the FTA installation can be connected directly to your existing splitter.

Be aware also that all of the FTA networks provide an online presence accessible via a smart TV or streaming device via the internet. Whilst this method of access is not as convenient, it can be an acceptable alternative for some.
