Growing up can be a very confusing time for most people. There is so much you have to figure out and given the ever changing world there never really a road map that works for everyone. This is the notion that Hobart band Glass Media have tried to instill in their latest release Waiting Out. If you were lucky enough to catch them at the Great Escape Camping Music Festival a few months ago you will be well aware of the sheer energy they bring to a live performance and how well that translates into their recordings. Steeped in angst and excitement this one is sure to be a crowd pleaser at any future performances.

Disco never died, it just goes into hibernation and now it’s back with the latest release for one seriously independent artist. This is one for all the introverts out there, the ones who would rather be curled up at home on a Saturday night with a good book and some gentle tunes. ‘To Late to Go Outside' is the third single to be released from Sydney band Kate moth and balances the imagery of the loneliness that can sometimes come from making excuses not to socialise but also highlights the eerie beauty of a world viewed from a detached position. The music is just as melancholy as the message and perfect for moments of quiet reflection.

Coming ahead of their much anticipated EP Perth Alt Rock band Polly have dropped a single to tide us over until then. ‘Doubt’ underlines the frustration of being stuck somewhere you know is wrong but also the strange sore of acceptance we can sometimes feel. Music has always had a way of capturing the times and reflecting the feelings of the population but there are some bands that take this to a whole other level. Sydney band Accidental President is one of these and their single Greedland stands as a reflection of the times we live in. Their blend of hard rock and metal makes them a stand out in the music scene and despite setbacks such as Covid and a few ensemble changes they are set to release a full album later this year.

An interesting fusion of rock, funk and pop makes the bold style of Melbourne performer Jet Mac who has just dropped their latest single ‘Do It Yourself’. The tune may be catchy but when you really dig down in to the themes behind the lyrics you’ll see the many layers of a song about setting boundaries in a relationship. However this isn’t your typical, mournful emo style track about these problems but rather an act of rebellion put to music with a classic soul-rock groove.
