Virtual Hobart Town - Our Story

Virtual Hobart Town is a digital platform for exploring the colonial history of Hobart, and of Van Diemen’s Land. We are fortunate in Tasmania to have inherited an extensive written and collections-based record of our colonial past. Digital technology allows us to interact with these historic records in ways that were previously unimaginable.

Years of historic research has supported the reconstruction of Hobart Town in a 3D digital environment. Historic maps, artworks, convict records and newspaper reports have been used to build a recreation which is as accurate as possible.
