Welcome to the month of August!

The August page of our calendar features an end of winter scene: “There is something different in the morning light as the days get warmer and longer at the end of winter. But make no mistake, it’s still chilly enough to rug up on those early morning walks!”

Big thanks to our advertisers Bendigo Bank (including Beaudesert and Community Bank Canungra & District), Tom Moore Plumbing, Beaudesert Show Society and Elysium Over 50's Village for supporting us! FROM Scenic Rim Regional Council:

Interruption to Council services due to industrial action

Scenic Rim Regional Council is taking all possible steps to minimise disruption to the community during industrial action planned by three unions this week.

Council CEO David Keenan has received notices of protected industrial action from Thursday 31 July 2025 from three of the six unions representing Council employees, The Services Union (TSU), the Australian Workers' Union (AWU) and the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU) in relation to claims made in negotiations for the proposed certified agreement with Council.

"Given the diversity of the unions involved, their proposed actions are likely to impact a wide range of Council services and facilities across the Scenic Rim," he said.

"Council is working to ensure that, as far as possible, the impact of this industrial action on residents and ratepayers is minimised.

"As the number of employees participating in industrial action is yet to be determined, members of the community are encouraged to check Council's website and social media channels for regular updates on potential closures and disruption to services."

At present, Council has offered a four per cent increase annually for a three-year period with provisions for better working conditions such as doubling bereavement leave.

"I have also committed to further discussions in relation to a review of on-call services and hope that, through the bargaining process, a fair and affordable solution will be forthcoming," Mr Keenan said.

THE battle for the 2032 Olympic rowing venue continues, as the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) 100-Day Review returned a recommendation that the Sydney International Regatta Centre host the flatwater competition.

This recommendation appears to be supported by the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, who questioned the Rockhampton decision on podcast Two Good Sports last month.
