Southeast Storm Media

Southeast Storm Media Severe Thunderstorm & Weather Photography Southeast Storm Media is a page dedicated to photographing and documenting severe weather, primarily thunderstorms.

All footage posted here will be my own. Live storm chase streams will also be done here and on the page. Most storm chases will be happening in Southeast Queensland, where I live. However, if I believe the conditions are good enough for severe storms, I may travel further to areas such as the Darling Downs, North Coast or NENSW. I currently roll with a Canon 1500D.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL
For people in parts of Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central West, Channel Country, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Southeast Coast and Gulf Country Forecast Districts.

Issued at 12:21 am Tuesday, 23 December 2025.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include areas east of Warwick.

44.0 mm was recorded at Yangan (Swan Creek) in the 30 minutes to 12:00 am.

Severe Forecast for Tuesday 23 December 2025
for NENSW & SEQ
------------------------------------------
An inland trough moving to the east will reach Southeast Queensland and Northeastern New South Wales by early tomorrow afternoon. Additionally, a southerly wind change could assist thunderstorm development and locally enhance wind shear across the region.

Bulk wind shear of around 30-35kts will support a more clustered "multi-cell" storm mode. There is also a marginal risk for a supercell or two that may produce some large hailstones.

Accumulated Rainfall suggests some high precipitation thunderstorms across SEQ and NENSW, producing roughly between 40-60mm with some locally heavier falls closer to 100mm a possibility tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Steering winds (500mb) will push thunderstorms southeast throughout the afternoon before translating to a more easterly motion into the evening.

------------------------------------------
Hazards:
The greatest risk for tomorrow will be heavy rainfall where we could see some localised flooding. There is also the risk for damaging winds.

Large hailstones cannot be ruled out as well.

🌪️ Ground photos of the tornado path discovered by satellite from Monday 24 November this year.

This is from one of two tornadoes! Though this one seems a bit more significant in strength compared to the first one we knew of, glad it remained only over forest land and didnt hit any homes 🥲

Awesome work Infinity!

Severe Forecast for Sunday 21 December 2025 🌪️
for VIC & NSW.

------------------------------------------

A low-pressure trough will move through parts of northwestern Victoria and southern NSW throughout today. By the afternoon a surface cyclone (995mb) will develop before pushing offshore to the southeast later into the evening and night.

The system will trigger thunderstorm activity across a large expanse of NSW and northern areas of Victoria throughout the late morning into the evening.

Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) is likely to be around 1000 to 1200 j/kg with dewpoints approaching 22-23°C.

Effective Deep Layer Shear (0-6km) is expected to reach between 60-70kts, supportive of organised convection including supercells.

Hodograph curvature, 3CAPE (0-3km) of around 80-100 j/kg and effective SRH of around ~200 m²/s² suggests an environment capable of producing some tornadoes.

------------------------------------------

Hazards:
The greatest risks at this time are Damaging Winds, Heavy Rainfall that could lead to localised flash flooding and large hailstones.

There is the potential as well for Destructive Winds & a couple of Tornadoes.

A supercell west of Gunnehdah NSW is likely producing large hailstones as it moves to the northeast.

This storm will also produce some damaging wind gusts and some heavy bursts of rain.

Best to avoid driving into this cell and putting cars undercover if its heading toward you. Quite a bit of lightning with this cell too! ⚡️

The first round of storms are firing up now across the Northern Tablelands moving to the east/southeast (7/12/25). ⚡️

Some of these cells could produce small to large hailstones over the next hour or so. More storms are expected throughout the afternoon well into the evening with the risk of large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.

A few isolated supercells could also produce hazards such as giant hail (>5cm) and locally destructive winds (>125km/h) later this afternoon near coastal areas of NENSW.
