🎆 THE Woodford Folk Festival has once again left a lasting mark on the Moreton Bay region, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and delivering a significant economic and cultural boost following six days of music, art and community celebration.

🚮 Bin there, paid that

CLEARING out the garage can cost residents anywhere from nothing to more than $50 for a standard ute load, depending on which council area they live in, with new comparisons showing sharp differences in waste disposal fees across Moreton Bay, Somerset and the Sunshine Coast.

A review of council fee schedules and waste policies shows Somerset Regional Council offers the cheapest overall disposal costs for most domestic waste, while Sunshine Coast residents face the highest charges under a user-pays system.

Moreton Bay City Council sits between the two, offering free disposal within annual limits but charging once those thresholds are exceeded.

🚨 THE State Government has formally tabled its response to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Volunteering in Queensland last month, setting out a 10-year plan to arrest declining volunteer numbers and reduce the red tape and rising costs blamed for putting community organisations under strain.

The Government’s response was tabled in Parliament on December 18, three months after the Local Government, Small Business and Customer Service Committee handed down its ‘Inquiry into volunteering in Queensland report’.

The report found volunteering in Queensland contributed more than $117 billion annually in social and economic value but warned participation had fallen sharply, with around 200,000 fewer volunteers between 2020 and 2023.
