Dolly has left us 💔 • CGTN America News Country music star Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Born into a large, low-income family in rural Tennessee, Parton built a career spanning more than six decades. She wrote some of country music’s best-known songs, including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” and won 11 Grammy Awards.

Parton was inducted into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her work also extended beyond music. Through her Imagination Library, hundreds of millions of books have been distributed to children around the world.

Parton had been enduring health challenges and had undergone treatment for kidney stones. Earlier this month, she canceled an appearance at her Dollywood theme park after experiencing dehydration and dizziness.

A cause of death has not yet been publicly announced. Her family announced her passing through a video posted by her nephew, Bryan Seaver, on her official Instagram account.
