🧭✨ The Arctic Henge — Iceland’s Stonehenge of the North!
We decided to drive up to The Arctic Henge in the tiny town of Raufarhöfn — way up in northeast Iceland!
It’s this massive stone structure inspired by Norse mythology, kind of like Iceland’s version of Stonehenge. It’s still a work in progress, but what’s already there is super cool. Giant arches, dramatic skies, and barely anyone else around when we visited!
Oh — and fun fact? You’re only about 60km from the Arctic Circle here. Closest we’ve ever been! Definitely gave the spot an extra “whoa” factor.
💡 A few tips if you’re planning to visit:
– It’s remote, so fill up on fuel and bring snacks
– The road’s decent, but check the weather
– It’s an great detour if you’re doing the full Ring Road
– There’s a campground right in Raufarhöfn near the swimming pool. It’s small, simple, but has a great wind break — which is essential up here! From the campground, you can walk or drive to the Arctic Henge — it’s totally doable either way
If you’re into weird, beautiful, middle-of-nowhere kind of places — this one’s for you.
