Here's an AI experiment. I've trained AI (specifically, ChatGPT and a database index on a platform called Pinecone...) on the complete contents of five books on the Distant Mirror site. One each book's page, there is a chatbot plugin which can, in theory, discuss anything to do with the book. My testing so far is that the AI does an outstanding job - it understands the contents of the books, and can discuss them. It can synthesize ideas, and can be creative in its discussion.

Here are the books:
My Inventions, by Nikola Tesla
The Problem of Increasing Human Energy (Nikola Tesla)
Bechamp or Pasteur? (Ethel Hume)
The Blood and its Third Element (Antoine Bechamp)
Reconstruction by Way of the Soil (Guy Wrench)

Links to the above book's pages are at https://adistantmirror.com

Do these chatbots work? Are they useful?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks folks,
David,

I've just posted the results of an experiment. The aim was to compare the prompts created by Gemini, ChatGPT, Meta, Grok, Claude and Copilot, and then to compare some of the results of feeding those prompts to a range of image creators. So, two things being compared: LLMs for their prompt creation, and models for their image creation and adherence to prompts. The results are interesting. More planned. Comments and advice are welcome in the comments either here, or on the blog. /DLM

I am going to give six leading LLMs the same instruction to create a prompt. Then I am going to feed the various prompts to some of the most popular image creators, and post the results below. Ther…

The Seeds of Empire - How Roman Agriculture Shaped Western Civilization

In the study of human societies, few questions are as pressing as why some civilizations rise to greatness while others falter. The Roman Empire, which dominated the Mediterranean world for centuries, offers a compelling case study in the intricate relationship between agricultural practices, societal structure, and long-term sustainability. By examining the agricultural foundation of Roman society, we can glean crucial insights into the factors that contribute to the rise and fall of civilizations—insights that hold profound implications for our modern world.

Key takeaways:
- Small family farms were the cornerstone of Roman society
- Soil health was crucial to Rome's success and decline
- Expansion led to unsustainable large-scale farming
- Diet shaped social structures
- Guy Wrench's work links ancient practices to modern solutions

Lessons for today:
- Sustainable agriculture is key to societal stability
- Local, diverse farming systems promote resilience
- Our food choices impact more than just our plates

The study of Roman agriculture reveals patterns and principles that transcend time and culture. The emphasis on soil health, the importance of local knowledge, the risks of agricultural centralization, and the profound connections between farming practices and social structures are all themes that resonate deeply in our modern world.

As we face unprecedented global challenges, from climate change to food insecurity, the lessons from Roman agriculture take on new urgency. They remind us that the choices we make about how we cultivate our food have far-reaching implications, not just for our diets, but for the very structure and sustainability of our societies.

A NEW TITLE FROM A DISTANT MIRROR

Paperback, full colour throughout

This is a new edition of one of the great stories of Irish mythology. It is extensively illustrated in full color by Midjourney, at the time of publication the leading AI illustration tool. The text is by David Major, author of 'The Day of the Nefilim', and 'Air for Fire'.

'The Strange Voyage of Máel Dúin' is a legendary tale from Gaelic literature that holds a significant place in the traditions of myth and history. It recounts the extraordinary maritime journey of the heroic Máel Dúin and his companions as they embark on a perilous quest.

The story begins with Máel Dúin seeking revenge for the death of his father at the hands of raiders. He gathers a crew of seventeen warriors (plus three stepbrothers who decide to tag along) and sets sail in a currach. Their voyage takes them through various mystical islands and encounters with fantastic beings, testing their courage, wit, and resilience.

Throughout the voyage, Máel Dúin and his crew face a series of challenges and adventures. They encounter strange islands inhabited by giants, shape-shifting creatures, monsters, castaway hermits, and other supernatural and surreal beings. Each encounter requires the crew to demonstrate their bravery and resourcefulness, often relying on their own intuition, as well as guidance from a variety of mentors and advisers.

The illustrations are by Midjourney currently (or arguably) the leading AI image generator, versions 5 to 5.2.
