Did you know.. You could have different energy rates from your neighbours, friends & family?
They could have the same house size, same number of rooms, same solar panel size and the same 3-4 family size house hold but do you ever wonder WHY you or they are paying more?
Thats because of the tariff types not many people know about.
You could have a single rate meter tariff meaning you have a single flat rate though the day where as your neighbour could be on a time of use tariff meter meaning, they have different charges through the day.
So it really gets down to your understanding of your rates and which energy providers are best suited for you.
For example:
Based on a time of use tariff - 90 days bill cycle - On a expired 12month guaranteed discount period.
A family of 4 has a electricity bill of
Daily supply charge: 0.9854 cents p/day - 90 days
Peak rate: 0.4883 cents p/kwh - 453.543 kwh (usage)
Off peak rate: 0.3145 cents p/kwh - 214.342 kwh (usage)
Shoulder rate: 0.3940 cents p/kwh - 254.323 kwh (usage)
Calculation: [rate x usage]
daily supply charge 0.9854 x 90 days = $88.69
peak - 0.4883 x 453.543 = $211.47
off peak - 0.3145 x 214.342 = $67.41
shoulder - 0.3940 x 254.323 = $100.20
Total: $467.77
Provider A offers: 10% [12 month total bill discount]
Daily supply charge: $1.4252 p/day
Peak rate: 0.4083 cents p/kwh
Off peak rate: 0.2045 cents p/kwh
Shoulder rate: 0.2940 cents p/kwh
Provider B offers: 15% [12 month total bill discount]
Daily supply charge: 0.8252 cents p/day
Peak rate: 0.5283 cents p/kwh
Off peak rate: 0.2245 cents p/kwh
Shoulder rate: 0.3540 cents p/kwh

Calculations:
Provider A - 10% [12 month total bill discount]
daily supply charge 1.4252 x 90 days = $128.268
peak - 0.4083 x 453.543 = $185.18
off peak - 0.2045 x 214.342 = $43.83
shoulder - 0.2940 x 254.323 = $74.77
Total: $432.05 - 10% [12 month discount]
= $388.85
Provider B - 15% [12 month total bill discount]
daily supply charge 0.8252 x 90 days = $74.268
peak - 0.5283 x 453.543 = $239.60
off peak - 0.2245 x 214.342 = $48.119
shoulder - 0.3540 x 254.323 = $90.03
Total: $452.02 - 15% [12 month discount]
= $384.22
Provider B would of saved you $83.55 for the Quater and potentially $334.20 for the Year if your usage was exactly the same for the next 3 quarters.
It's very important to stay on top of your energy bills.
