You might be interested in this incredible Bingara history story. It’s about a horse, a war hero, a famous English kid’s story book and Bangheet Station. What a mix, a horse bred on Bangheet Station as a military “Charger”, he has paintings by a famous artist of him that are highly valued. The last time I checked even prints are worth up to $1000 and they are hanging across the world.
Bingara has two very famous horses, Rocky Ned, Australia’s greatest ever buckjumper (born by Tom Butler on the Horton River) and this horse, Black Prince, who was more famous in England than he was in Australia.
The war hero involved in the story is the founder of the Boy Scouts, the children’s book is ‘Black Beauty” 1915 version, and the artist was the most important animal painter of that era.
But it was tough going as at the first opportunity Black Prince bolted and joined the wild ponies in the mountains. Born on the 55,000-acre station at Bingara (incidentally, this is where many of the Lanagan Family worked) it is obvious that English aristocracy was not for him. But his freedom did not last long, and he proceeded to leave a wonderful legacy for Bingara that is still grabbing “wow” responses to his story.
