Esther 1:8 (KJV) And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.
O: A strange place to find an example of a good law. In the Book of Esther is hidden this just law under a just kingdom: “The drinking was according to the law.” What was the law? The ESV explains, “There is no compulsion.”
None compelled you to drink at the party.
None compelled you to stop drinking at the party.
It would be wise for all governments and churches to obey this principle of King Ahasuerus: stop compelling citizens to do made up virtues or to avoid made up vices. It’s better to tell us the minimum prohibitions and prescriptions, and leave the rest up to us to decide. Let the people who don’t hurt anyone be FREE.
In His Word, God has given us His ideal laws with the minimum amount of prohibitions (don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t worship idols and demons, don’t be foul mouthed) and prescriptions (love God, honor your parents, love your neighbors, honor ministers of God, and rest every 7th day). Such simple rules.
Instead, we replace them with a loathsome mountain of nonsense: compelling people to get digital ID for the license to work; mandatory vaccines and masks; permission to build, to plant, to grow our own food, raise animals and harvest eggs; muzzling free speech; prohibition against verbally offending sexual perverts. It’s an over-reach of the concept of “law”.
A: A good umbrella law to cover all activities that’s not harmful to anyone is “there is no compulsion.” It’s good to parent this way: what degree, what job, what sports, what spouse you choose, there is no compulsion. Just don’t go harming yourself and others. Apply basic standards of Christian faith & godly values on which you choose. Otherwise live free.
God is not harsh on me. He has given me His basic requirements. The rest is up to me. He likes for me to live free.
P: Father, You deserve all the trust, love and worship of mankind because You are a good King. No human leader even compares. They are obnoxious and overbearing. You are second to none. You are Number 1.
