It is so good for people in North America that Eddie Hobgood is now well enough to be able to deliver his excellent Salvation Army history performances of Samuel Logan Brengle and Joe the Turk for another few months.

See photos for more info. The first photo is the cover of his exciting book on Joe the Turk. I suggest you read the book whether you will see the show or not.

May we have more people raised up by the Holy Spirit to shine brightly with love, grace and enthusiasm of God as exhibited by these two very different Salvationists.

From the history of humans that I know, sadly, war has been our constant companion.

Salvos Publishing has two books that examine war from a different perspective than most publications. The author, Lindsay Cox, emphasises the caring ministry of The Salvation Army in war.

This care covers those fighting and those who have had their world invaded by war.

It’s about bringing hope in a situation that seems hopeless. The care includes helping people keep connected with family and caring for families when they lose a loved one.

The books are about surprises, joy and faith. Courage comes up often.

Stories from Australian soldiers first hand through interviews, letters from soldiers and Salvation Army red shield representatives as well as research from archives help make these two very special books.

And of course there are 400 hundred photos between the two books.

Cuppa Tea, Digger? — a hard cover large coffee table book is now selling at half price for the print version AUD$40 and Still Serving is just AUD $20 for the print version.

Both books are available on Amazon for Kindle.

Today a gentle reminder that our international Salvation Army daily devotional book — Words of Life — is now online as well as in print and ebook formats (Kindle and Kobo) with some also being on The Bible app.

For today’s online reading click here https://www.salvationarmy.org/words-of-life

Major Neil Webb who writes most of the devotions for Words of Life is really enjoying delving into the Bible and writing these practical and uplifting spiritual devotions.

Australians can order the print version through your corps officer who sends in a yearly order to THQ procurement team. There are three editions each year. This current year cost around $55 in total for the three books.

I find it is always helpful to have a TSA devotional book as part of my spiritual input.

Included in the photos are some of Words of Life on sale from UKI Territory SP&S and TSA USA Eastern Territory.

This book by Dawn Volz is one of only two Salvos Publishing books that has a foreword by a current Australian governor general at the time of publishing.

And what a fabulous recommendation Quentin Bryce gave this practical, money-saving potential lifeline for readers. She concludes her foreword by saying “Saved is a salve and a saviour. I urge all Australians to put their hands up to be rescued!”

With 850 areas of savings tips covering six key areas of life and at the super low price of AUD$5 plus postage this is a hope-bringing bargain.

WoW in November this year the Salvation Army in Papua New Guinea is celebrating 70 years since it was commenced in 1956 by Major Keith Baker from the Australia Eastern Territory.

Commissioner, then Lieutenant, Ian Cutmore joined Major Baker about six months after and in Not Weary Yet Ian shares with us a number of his experiences from these commencing years in PNG.

His writing is added to in this story-filled and picture laden book by Commissioners James and Jan Condon, Miriam Gluyas, Colonels Kelvin Alley and Cec Williams and around 15 more people who write from their heart and experience of PNG.

Will the 70th celebrations be as vibrant and colourful as the 50th yes celebrations that Jan writes about in Not Weary Yet?

We are on our second print run of this inspiring book. This will be a great gift for anyone going to the 70th celebrations and also for you to give to any PNG person you know.

Available on Amazon for Kindle and from Kirralea at Salvos Publishing https://www.salvosonline.org.au/salvos-publishing/not-weary-yet%3A-inspiring-snippets-of-the-salvation-army-papua-new-guinea-story

Two excellent people involved in two very different, yet excellent, books. You can have them both for a total of AUD $7 (plus postage) — the books that is — not the people.

Mal Davies was Editor-in-Chief for The Salvation Army Australia for a number of years and during that time he was a driving force behind many books being published.

One of them was a reprint of I’ll Stand for Christ which was authored by William and Catherine Booth.

And Tracey Davies, from her background in child care and Salvation Army children’s ministries co-authored with Ros Elms this delightful book for young children - God & You.

Apology Ros I couldn’t find any photos of you.

Check out these two books on our Salvos Publishing website https://www.salvosonline.org.au/salvos-publishing or phone Kirralea at our Melbourne office 03 8541 4569

This book has a bold title? Is it too bold for you and you have been put off buying it?

If so, then hopefully what comes next will help you at least start to consider buying it.

There is absolutely no expectation from Pete and Salvos Publishing that everyone who reads this book has to become a superstar world changer.

In fact, this book is about us becoming excellent in working with God as he does his ongoing development of us.

Pete gives many practical points and stories about how we can play our part in continually inviting God to keep inspiring, uplifting and encouraging us to understand ourself.

As we understand ourself more we learn where our strengths and growing opportunities are.

I love that Pete stays grounded and doesn’t write from a fluffy, pie in the sky perspective. Instead, he tackles the toughness of life from his personal experience walk through it.

We may not change the whole world but we can certainly allow God to change us so we can be a stronger light in our world.

I know that I promoted this book: Caring for Janet — Dementia, Us and God just a little while ago, however, it is a significant book for anyone whose family is touched by dementia. And sadly this is a growing group.

Bob and Janet Street have had a beautiful, loving relationship for many decades! The past few years have been on a very different level to what was previously.

In one of my roles within The Salvation Army I had quite a bit to do with aged care and for an intensive time with care for people with dementia.

Having seen Bob as he cares for Janet and interacts with the support people and agencies assisting in her caring I will be surprised if his book doesn’t evoke many emotions in all who read it.

He hopes and prays that the book will be another support bringer for the families of those who have dementia. If fact, he mentioned to me that he has been contacted by a number of people already who have been positively impacted.

What kind of person writes a book?

Are you someone who has written one or more — if so, what kind of person are you?

And if any of you do write a comment about yourself and writing I am sure that there would be some similarities between you all and also many differences.

I have observed over the years that there is no one size fits all for authors.

However, I think Salvos Publishing has only had one teenage author in our almost 20 years of existence.

Does this mean young Salvationists don’t want to write a book or has it never been raised with them?

I wonder what Salvationists or Salvos under 20 years of age would actually want to write a book about?

What do you feel and think about this? Could you ask some young Salvos/Salvationists what topics would inspire them to write a book for us, please?

Currently we have around a dozen book proposals in our book queue. One is at the printing company now, one has had two edits, others are at first draft stage and some are still being written.

TSA history, biography, devotions, prayer, holy living, poetry, theology, children’s, a novel and more topics are in the mix of these potential books.

Is these something missing? Is this something stirring in you? If so, then please contact me.

We at Salvos Publishing are so glad that people are still sending in manuscripts. We are waiting for yours!

Maybe one day you will join the people in the photos who are already Salvos Publishing authors!

I look forward to hearing from you?

Major Bryce Davies is full of surprises. His page is an ongoing source of entertainment but this latest one takes the cake for me.

A few days ago he is looking ghastly from his hospital bed after running 62 kilometres to match his new age! And from his hospital bed he is doing his bit to raise money for our Salvation Army Australia Red Shield Appeal.

Then on the weekend another Red Shield Appeal post appears but this time he is back park running! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Bryce is a superb character who it seems has had a miraculous healing!! Now I don’t know this as I haven’t asked him.

But I do know that his book Doing Life with Bryce is full of surprising stories of love, faith and hope. Just like watching his Facebook there is no way you will be bored.

I will be shocked if you don’t find yourself chuckling and praising God — at the same time — as you read it.
