Another beautiful weekend morning to be out and about eyeing all things fabulous in the Southern Highlands even if the days seem to be dragging on now. Disappointing for us all not being able to open up again today, but our turn will come and hopefully that will be the last of lockdowns. Have a sun-shiny weekend! 🌳

Fromage. Fromaggio. Chizu. Questo. Cheese. We love it. So what’s the universal appeal? “Its deliciousness of course,” says Hugh Nicholas, cheesemonger at Cheese etc, Bowral. “It’s also an incredibly versatile food with endless variations – of region, milk origin, style, aroma. And for all that, it’s also somehow incredibly honest and simple and earthy, tied to the land and the farmers and producers.” Read all about cheese, and some of our local cheese producers and providores in our new issue. Thinking of when we can move around freely again, even to just enjoy the simple things in life we take for granted…. In the mean time, one of our favourite things to do here at Escape is to get up early on the weekend mornings and head out to a different town or village in the Southern Highlands for a morning walk. So much to discover and see doing this that you may normally miss when driving through. Gates and front entrances are a favourite and we have captured a few to share. Happy walking! 🌳

The Plane trees in Leighton Gardens, Moss Vale, have come alive with the help of some very creative and vibrant crocheted wraps. Known as Yarn bombing, our very talented women from the Moss Vale Evening CWA and members of the wider community have spent many hours producing these for the installation. What a treat they are visually! 🌳

Did you know the national standard on free-range egg stocking density is 10,000 hens or fewer per hectare? To put that into context, that’s four chooks on a bed double or one per every square metre. Not really free range then huh? To ensure the eggs you eat are laid by happy, healthy hens, free to move around at will and scratch in the grass, go local. Growers
such as Taluca Park, Exeter; Mussett Holdings, Colo Vale; Jamberoo Mountain Eggs,
Robertson and Dunollie Rare and Heritage Poultry, Sutton Forest keep open range and
pastured raised hens. And these ones are the real deal. Read where to find yours in the new issue of ESH in Highlife out now. 🌳
