Another request for info about the Newlgalup State School from the current owner of the property formerly known as "Rocky Pool" (now "Highbury Hills") on the old Donnybrook-Katanning rail line.
Recently, I located the historical plaque on my land commemorating the Newlgalup State School, which operated from 1938 to 1942. The plaque mentions that the school served seven local families, including those of E.A. Campbell and the Hendersons of "Cloverdale."
I am eager to connect with any former pupils who may still be with us, or their descendants, to learn more about the school’s daily life and the families who lived here. I am also looking for any old photographs of the schoolhouse or the "Rocky Pool" homestead.
The likely "Seven District Families" mentioned on the plaque:
* Campbell - "Rocky Pool" / "Highbury Hills" (The Host)
* Henderson - "Cloverdale" (The long-distance walker)
* Brockman - Nearby grazing leases (Pioneering WA family)
* Nixon - "Wilga" area farmers
* Beaton - Associated with the Newlgalup Siding
* Lloyd-James - Local orchardists and graziers
* Purse - Neighbours to the south near Boyup Brook
Any memories or information would be appreciated.
Information from the 'Pioneer Schools of the Upper Blackwood (1893-2000) has been passed on.
