Great to share memories of days gone by....

We had a great afternoon of local history sharing at the CRC yesterday as part of the Heritage Festival.
Thank you to Kristen Mappin for sharing how to record oral histories and for showcasing the second edition of the 'Wilga - a brief history' book (available from the library, or to purchase). And it was fantastic to have some students from Boyup Brook District High School in attendance to learn about days gone by.

A recent discovery.... does anyone have any further information?

Here is a photo of an old tin trunk found at the recycle centre.
It belonged to a G. Paterson who l imagine arrived in Boyup after a journey on the ship RMS Tangitata as named on the trunk.
The ship was built in 1929 in Scotland and scrapped in Yugoslavia in1962. Its usual voyage was London to Wellington NZ via the Panama Canal.
So this trunk could be 96 years old or more! And the original owner may have arrived in Fremantle between 1929 and 1962.
Quite how this trunk arrived in Boyup is anyone's guess.
If it has been chucked out unintentionally, and the owner or a family member would like it back, please contact the Boyup Brook CRC

Another request for info about the Newlgalup State School from the current owner of the property formerly known as "Rocky Pool" (now "Highbury Hills") on the old Donnybrook-Katanning rail line.

Recently, I located the historical plaque on my land commemorating the Newlgalup State School, which operated from 1938 to 1942. The plaque mentions that the school served seven local families, including those of E.A. Campbell and the Hendersons of "Cloverdale."

I am eager to connect with any former pupils who may still be with us, or their descendants, to learn more about the school’s daily life and the families who lived here. I am also looking for any old photographs of the schoolhouse or the "Rocky Pool" homestead.

The likely "Seven District Families" mentioned on the plaque:
* Campbell - "Rocky Pool" / "Highbury Hills" (The Host)
* Henderson - "Cloverdale" (The long-distance walker)
* Brockman - Nearby grazing leases (Pioneering WA family)
* Nixon - "Wilga" area farmers
* Beaton - Associated with the Newlgalup Siding
* Lloyd-James - Local orchardists and graziers
* Purse - Neighbours to the south near Boyup Brook

Any memories or information would be appreciated.

Information from the 'Pioneer Schools of the Upper Blackwood (1893-2000) has been passed on.

Can you help with some information about Strapp Motors?

Lost Boyup has recently received this enquiry...
I was doing some research into a holden I now own (like the one described in the image) and from the history report I got on it the selling dealer was "Strapp Motors Boyup Brook".
I was wondering if by any chance you would know of anyone still around associated with this dealership in 71-72? Seem like this car might have been ordered for showroom stock car in 71 before being sold there in 72..

Does anyone have any information to share about the original Boyup Brook Caravan Park?

Apparently it then became the drive-in, followed by the original hockey oval….
