Speaking of exceptional regional creatives…are you familiar with photographer Nic Duncan Photographer

We’ve had the delight of knowing and working with Nic for some time and the incredible people and stories she captures through her lens are always a source of inspiration and truly move us when they come through our feed. We’re highlighting her and one of her recent collaborations here so you can also appreciate the stories and people she shares.

Pictured here is Aunty Eliza from the upcoming exhibition - Binalup, Menang | First Light, First People, a portrait exhibition that is a Menang-led collaboration between Elders and Nic.

Running from 26 June – 26 July, at the Albany Town Hall, the exhibition features a series of 29 portraits of Elders and other key Menang people, shining a light on their contributions to the Menang community and the wider Albany community.

We’ve taken the below from the City of Albany website and below we've shared the link to the dates and times of the exhibition.

Menang Elder, Aunty Carol Pettersen says the project “highlights the contributions of our First Nations people in shaping the community we have today, telling our story in a way that builds pride and confidence in our youth while fostering mutual respect and collaboration.” Uncle Lester Coyne adds, “Many of our Elders are ‘quiet achievers,’ so this is a wonderful way to recognise them publicly.”

This meaningful project will leave a lasting legacy, ensuring the images and stories of the Menang people are recognised, celebrated, and shared with future generations.

If you’ve followed for a while you’ll know that one of our primary goals is to highlight and celebrate regional creative talent, and to make regional creatives discoverable so they can get greater access to professional opportunities.

This story highlighting the incredible Brianna Jones - day to day farmer, and aspiring film maker, is the perfect example of everything we stand for!

We’re regularly contacted by people all over the world if they need to find a creative in the most faraway of places in regional Australia and I can honestly say that there’s only been a couple of instances where we couldn’t find a local creative to suit the purpose they needed. Exceptional creative talent literally exists all over regional Australia.

If you’re crewing professional creative projects - from major films, to advertising campaigns to brand shoots, theatre shows…and everything in between…please look locally before you haul in a team of entirely city based creatives. Implanting creative legacy is not only valuable for the people that remain in that community, but also because the talent you’ll discover have so much magic to contribute to the broader national story telling landscape ongoing!

Don’t assume they’re not there, or they’re not experienced/skilled enough. It’s simply not true…you just haven’t met them yet but when you find them you’ll be glad you looked! 😉✨

Mother’s Day has been getting a bitta airtime of late. So. A little post to add to the mother love.

These gorgeous pics were taken by the ridiculously talented Clancy Paine (capturer of magic + mother) at a very special convergence of creatives at

The adventure was designed and brought together by a coupla brilliant powerhouses led by Grace Brennan and Georgie Robertson ❤️

For me, this gathering came at a really unique time…it was the first time I’d been away solo from my two little girls, and I also knew it would be the end of my feeding journey as my 18 month old was weaning and being away for a few days was going to be the full stop at the end of that experience….a bittersweet milestone.

As I travelled across the Nullarbor to Numby and back, I went through all manner of emotions - from an unfamiliar sense of freedom (oh my god I can use both my hands!!), to an uncomfortable sense of grief, guilt and shame, underpinned by the most splendid sense of joy in connecting face to face with a group of unbelievable creative women I’d admired from afar for years. I hadn’t realised quite how isolated, lonely and overwhelmed I’d felt in the early years of motherhood until this moment…I was like a little puppy bursting with energy, overflowing with chatter, bubbling frivolously like the creeks we crossed.

There’s a certain chemistry that crackles when you’re among fellow creatives and artists in person….inspiring, rejuvenating and replenishing, something I really needed. It was also fantastic to share in conversations of motherhood and managing artistic dreams alongside the things we do as mums. This continues to fascinate and perplex me.

During the week I read a quote that summed it up so honestly:

“I don't think "juggle" is a cute metaphor. I think it is the whole thing. There is no magical integration point where it all clicks. No season where the domestic and the artistic stop competing for blood. There is just the constant negotiation of what gets held, what gets dropped, what gets delayed, what gets made anyway...creativity is not the thing I do alongside motherhood. Creativity is what keeps me alive inside it."

These words resonated. I don’t have anything wise to espouse in this post. It’s just a pebble of thought thrown out to all the artist mothers crawling, skipping, striding along this path.

I’ll always cherish this experience that I was so lucky to enjoy at a pivotal point, and I continue to celebrate the extraordinary women I got to gather with, I’ve popped their accounts below so you can also watch their wonderful work.

A huge thanks to the otherworldly women Louise and Heidi at the helm of the experience, you must check them out and I wildly encourage you to organise your own creative coming together at Numby. You’ll still be talking about it for years to come, like I am now.

Happy Easter from the bush 🐣🌾

Easter out here has its own kind of magic, wide open paddocks, fresh morning air, and a whole lot of excitement from little boots racing across the grass. The Easter hunts are in full swing, with kids searching high and low under gum trees, around fence posts and in the old chook yard, convinced the bilbies have hidden the best chocolate treasures (and hoping the rabbits didn’t get there first!).

There’s laughter echoing across the yard as baskets slowly fill with chocolate eggs, some carefully collected, others already unwrapped and enjoyed on the spot. Sticky fingers, chocolate smiles, and that pure kind of joy only kids can bring.

The day rolls on with simple traditions, a table filled with fresh seafood, shared plates, and stories that seem to get better every year. The kids run wild, making up games, comparing their Easter hauls, and sneaking just one more egg when they think no one’s looking.

It’s not fancy, but it’s full, full of family, fresh air, and those little moments that matter most.

Wishing everyone a beautiful Easter, especially the kids soaking up the magic of it all. May your day and weekend be filled with adventure, laughter, and just the right amount of chocolate 🤎🐰

Artist – De-Anne Strange

De-Anne Strange is a contemporary Australian artist and designer based on her family’s agricultural farm in Bruce Rock, in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia, where she lives with her husband and three sons. Deeply connected to country, her work is inspired by the light, movement and quiet strength of the natural landscape that surrounds her.

With a background in Visual Arts, professional photography and textile design, and over 25 years of creative experience, De-Anne brings a refined eye for composition, colour and detail into her multidisciplinary practice. Her work combines hand painting, drawing, photography and digital techniques to create layered, intuitive pieces that feel both grounded and elevated.

Drawing on native flora, organic textures and the ever changing environment of rural life, her designs are created to bring a sense of calm, beauty and connection into everyday spaces. Alongside her original artworks, De-Anne creates collections for textiles, wallpaper and homewares, with work licensed and collected both in Australia and internationally.

It’s World Backup Day…

A gentle reminder that “I’ll do it later” is not a backup strategy 😅

As creatives, we’ve got photos on laptops, edits on hard drives, half-finished ideas tucked into folders called “final_FINAL_v3”… and at least one masterpiece living dangerously on a desktop somewhere.

So today’s the day, backup, backup, and maybe backup again for good measure. Because nothing builds character quite like losing your best work… but let’s not test that theory.

Future you will be forever grateful 🤍
