Today marks a huge win for accessibility, with the Government announcing reforms to mandate Audio Description and increase captioning across television and video-on-demand services.
Blind Citizens Australia and the wider disability community have advocated for equal access to the stories, conversations and cultural moments that bring Australians together for decades.
This announcement means more Australians who are blind or vision impaired will be able to enjoy their favourite shows with family and friends, join conversations about the latest series everyone is talking about and fully participate in the shared experiences that media creates.
Audio Description is more than a feature - it is a pathway to inclusion. By describing important visual elements like actions, expressions and settings, Audio Description helps ensure our community can experience content on an equal footing.
