One of RMC SA/NT’s strongest supporters received life membership at last night’s AGM.

Trevor Ranford (pictured here with RMC SA/NT Vice President Prue Adams and President Leigh Radford) has been a constant at RMC SA/NT events since 1993 and has made a massive contribution to agriculture both in South Australia and nationally.

Throughout his nearly 50-year career in agriculture, Trevor has worked across a range of organisations including Chestnuts Australia, the Pistachio Growers’ Association, Hazelnut Growers of Australia, the Australian Walnut Industry Association, and Summerfruit Australia.

He was recognised for his services to industry when he received the 2022 Australian Biosecurity Award in the Industry category, which reflected his contribution to the management of the 2010 to 2020 national chestnut blight emergency response.

Trevor has made an enormous contribution to RMC SA/NT over the years with his generous sponsorship and donations of fresh produce to our annual awards, but he has also promoted the organisation to others and brought many new faces to our events. He’s also never shy about asking a tough question from the floor when we host guest speakers!

Trevor — you are valued enormously by everyone involved with RMC SA/NT. Congratulations on your life membership.

Better late than never!

RMC SA/NT held an intimate gathering at The Goody in March 2025 where we hosted our 2024 Rural Journalist of the Year, Kristy O'Brien from ABC Landline. In a Q&A session led by RMC SA/NT Vice President Prue Adams, attendees heard about Kristy’s upbringing in rural Queensland and how the seeds of her journalism career were sown early in her life. The audience was also treated to some classic tales of life as a rural reporter in the Top End.

Thanks for coming, Kristy!

📍A couple of info-packed days for RMC head honcho Leigh Radford and Vice honcho Prue Adams at the Northern Australia Food Futures Conference.
✅We heard from and met some of the biggest names in Australian ag including Fiona Simson (Vice Pres World Farmers’ Organisation) and National Farmers Federation boss David Jochinke.
🎤Prue and Leigh volunteered their time to moderate a bunch of break-out discussions.
📢 Shout out to Paula Joanne Thompson and Matt Brann for being the only ag journos reporting from this major conference… both recipients of our very own RMC rural media awards 🏆
🗒️Watch out for Paula’s stories in the Stock Journal

⭐️Brilliant turn-out for our FIRST EVER RMC event in the Northern Territory.

✨Five years ago we included NT ag journos and communicators in our group.

🏆While NT journos have been winning our rural media awards ever since, we’d never managed to meet Territory peeps on their home turf … until now.

✈️President Leigh Radford and Vice President Prue Adams flew to Darwin this week to attend the Northern Australian Food Futures Conference AND organise an RMC catch up before the conference started.

🚜People who are as passionate as we are about telling the stories of food and farming were there; reps from the National Farmers Federation, NT Farmers, CRC Northern Australia, Cattlemens Assoc, ABC and ACM reporters among them.

🙏Many thanks to our major supporter Rural Business Support for sponsoring this event.

↪️NT. We’ll be back.

It shines a light on the realities of farming life, tackling themes of mental health, community support and the deep connection between people and the land.

Following the screening there will be a panel discussion, writer and executive producer Leila McDougall will be joined by special guests for a thought-provoking discussion on mental health in farming communities.
