I have never filmed this sport before so I went with super trusty tools. Sony FX3 + 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II and second camera was the ZV-E1 + 70-200mm f/2.8 GM II. The ZV-E1 was as is and no monitor and the FX3 had a monitor on top as I knew I would use it the most.
This sport is not for the faint-hearted. It demands absolute physical commitment, mental toughness, and a willingness to collide at full speed. Every hit, every sprint, every moment is all or nothing.

Reviewed this over a year ago now. The 50-150mm f/2.0 is a beast of a lens but I don’t own it. I chose to purchase the 24-70 and the 70-200 instead. Having a versatile 24-70 was far more important to me than the 50-150. Some will say the 35-150 samyang or Tamron would be a good happy medium which could be true. Although 24mm is pretty useful in a lot of situations, moreso for me than the 35 or 50mm focal range.
It really does depend on what you shoot, that’s for sure.
What did you get?

Always know your worth.

There will come a point where you start charging what your work is genuinely worth, and not everyone will like it. Some clients will push back on your pricing, but that doesn’t mean you should lower it.

In my experience, the clients who ask for discounts are often the ones who expect the most in return. extra exports, endless revisions, and constant changes. They can end up being the most demanding and time consuming projects.

We’ve all been there. It’s part of the learning curve of running a small business. Over time, you realise that saying “no” to the wrong clients creates room for the right ones. clients who respect your time, your expertise, and the value you bring.

Filmed mostly with the FX6 + Blazar Beetle 65mm T3.2 1.33x anamorphic lens.
The running video that quite literally sparked an obsession for Amber Morris.
This was also only the second running video I’d ever made. I wanted to challenge myself, practice filming a new sport, and refine my ability to tell stories through filming.
One of my biggest goals this year has been to step outside my comfort zone, cover more sports, and gain experience in areas I’m not used to.
Every shoot is another opportunity to learn. Practice doesn’t make perfection, it makes progress.
