I jumped on the Plant Grow Reap Podcast to talk about something I’m genuinely passionate about: cybersecurity for real people not just IT departments.

Cyber Unicorns started a little over two years ago because I kept saying “someone should build better cyber education for mums, dads, seniors, kids, and small business…” and then I realised… that someone had to be me.

In this episode, we break down cyber in a way that’s practical, relatable, and doesn’t rely on scaring people into action. Because fear fades but good habits stick.

Here are a few key takeaways I want you to walk away with:

✅ You don’t need to know every risk out there you just need a healthy level of suspicion
✅ Pause before you click, pause before you post (is there anything in this that could be used against me later?)
✅ Don’t use the same password everywhere please 😅
✅ Turn on multi-factor authentication
✅ Back up your photos (I’ve seen people lose years of family memories it’s heartbreaking)
✅ Deepfakes and voice cloning are real if you get a weird call from “family”, hang up and call them back

And if you’ve got kids? The biggest thing is this:

Create a safe space where they can come to you even when it’s uncomfortable. The online world is just a new landscape, but the principles are the same.

When you’re traveling or sitting in public spaces like trains or planes, you might not realize that others could be peeking at your screen. 👀 Whether it’s your bank account, personal documents, or social media, it’s all visible to anyone nearby if you’re not careful!

Here are some simple tips to stay secure:

🔒 Be aware of your surroundings. Always check who’s around before accessing sensitive information.
🚫 Avoid accessing high-risk accounts (banking, social media, personal docs) in public areas.
🪞 Mind the reflections! Windows, glass surfaces, and screens can show what you’re doing.
👀 Keep it private, make sure others can’t see your private data.

Remember, a few extra seconds of awareness can save you a lot of trouble later. Stay safe out there!

Every day we sign up for new apps, platforms, and social media accounts… but are we giving away too much information? 🤔

If one of those platforms is breached, your data full name, address, date of birth, ID numbers could fall into the wrong hands.

Here are simple rules to stay safer online:

🔸 Only provide the minimum required details when creating accounts
🔸 If a field isn’t mandatory (like your DOB or address) leave it blank
🔸 Be mindful of what you post publicly
✔ No visible number plates
✔ No bills or personal documents in the background
✔ Avoid sharing full birthdates & holiday locations in real-time
