A man in his 70s has been rushed to Nambour Hospital after being bitten on the arm while reportedly in bed at his Cooloolabin home near Yandina.

Paramedics said it was a confirmed snake bite but the species hasn’t been identified.

It’s one of two snake incidents overnight, with another man in his 50s taken to Mackay Hospital after a suspected ankle bite at Hay Point.

It comes amid a surge in snake activity across the Sunshine Coast as warmer weather sets in.

A Brisbane start-up developing hypersonic engines for defence has secured $46 million in new funding, including $10 million from the Albanese government.

Hypersonix Launch Systems will test its hydrogen-fuelled scramjet in a NASA-backed flight in Virginia early next year, a major milestone in its growing collaboration with the United States.

While designed for military and space applications, the technology could eventually make two-hour, zero-emission flights from Sydney to London a reality.

It marks the National Reconstruction Fund’s first defence investment, aimed at boosting Australia’s aerospace capability and strengthening ties with key allies.

A two-year-old Queensland border collie has been crowned Australia’s hardest working dog.

Duke, from the small town of Stonehenge south of Longreach, took out the annual competition by covering 556km during three weeks’ work.

Owner Beck Smith and her four-legged colleague took out the 'Cobber Challenge', which uses GPS collars to track the distance, speed and hours clocked up by farm dogs around the country as they work livestock.

Works on the southern hemisphere’s tallest building has been given the green light by council to begin on the Gold Coast early next year.

The tallest half of the tower will be 101 levels with almost 200 apartments, including a luxury three story penthouse, and the other side will be a 60 storey commercial building.

The $700 million One Park Lane project in Southport is set to tower above the Q1 and other skyscrapers across Australia.

A teenage boy has suffered wounds to his leg and abdomen after a reported crocodile attack in Far North Queensland on the weekend.

It’s understood the 14-year-old was bitten at Myall Beach in Cape Tribulation around 3:50pm on Saturday before being airlifted to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

Rangers from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are investigating.

People are urged to report any crocodile sightings online, through the QWildlife app, or by calling 1300 130 372.

More than 25,000 households remain without power after destructive storms battered Brisbane and other parts of south east Queensland with giant hail, damaging winds, rain and lightning.

Hundreds of videos posted to social media show the extent of the damage across the region with outdoor furniture seen flying off balconies including a bbq, along with golf ball-sized hail pounding down in backyards and a tree on fire after being struck by lightning.

There is a chance of more severe weather on the way, with Brisbane set to swelter through temperatures of up to 37 degrees today bringing on possible thunderstorms.

A total fire ban is set to come into effect across South East Queensland, as dangerous conditions raise fears of bushfires in the region.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Services confirmed the ban will remain in place until midnight on Tuesday due to heightened fire risks.

Areas including Brisbane, Logan, and the Gold Coast will be covered by the 24-hour ban, which begins at midnight.

The ban comes as an unusual heatwave sweeps across much of northern and western Queensland, with extreme conditions also affecting parts of the Northern Territory and northern parts of Western Australia, increasing the risk of dangerous fire conditions.
