The new state-of-the-art Ripley Police Facility has officially opened, marking a significant step forward in strengthening policing services across the Ipswich District.

The purpose-built three-storey complex serves as both the new Ripley Police Station and the Headquarters for Ipswich District Police, which also accommodates several specialist units including the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Child Protection Investigation Unit (CPIU), and Forensic Crash Unit (FCU), among others.

The milestone was acknowledged with an official opening ceremony, including the unveiling of a plaque by Acting Commissioner of Police Brett Pointing.

In total, the new $38 million Ripley facility can house more than 200 police officers and support staff, while also offering the capacity to expand in line with the region’s rapidly growing population.

Construction on the project finished in early 2026, and the facility currently services communities from Toogoolawah in the north, Boonah in the south, Goodna in the east and through the Brisbane Valley to Rosewood in the west.

Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing said locals deserved police resources that met the evolving needs of the community.

“This new facility is more than a building – it’s a hub for community safety,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.

“The brand-new facility aligns general duties, as well as specialist proactive and reactive units to coordinate and place QPS resources where they are most needed and can be most effective.”

Ipswich District Officer Acting Superintendent Ben MacKenzie said the new facility was designed to enhance workflow between the units and featured key components such as major incident rooms, Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) spaces, forensic science labs and a vehicle examination bay.

Acting Superintendent MacKenzie said the frontline capability had been bolstered by 30 QPS officers who now serve as part of the new Ripley Station.

“The addition of these general duties officers at the Ripley Station will strengthen our presence in the area and ensures the QPS can continue to meet the ever evolving and unique needs of this growing community,” Acting Superintendent MacKenzie said.

“The central location will provide a valuable opportunity to enhance our relationships with the community and foster greater public confidence in our efforts to keep the community safe.”

A 25-year-old Carina man has been charged with a string of traffic offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, after his motorbike was recorded travelling more than 120km/hour.

It is alleged on 21 February that the 25-year-old rider was observed speeding, riding through red lights and operating the vehicle dangerously on major roads in Virginia.

Police attempted to intercept the motorcycle, and the rider had stopped on the side of Sandgate Road, but took off again, evading police and accelerating up to speeds in excess of 150km/h.

After subsequent investigations, officers from the Road Policing Task Force executed a search warrant on 9 March at a Seven Hills address.

The motorcycle was located on the property and seized.

The 25-year-old Carina man was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to have proper control of a vehicle, stopping on a red traffic light over stop line, failing to ensure each number plate properly attached to vehicle, failing to remain at a place, disobeying the speed limit and driving a defective light vehicle on a road.

His case was heard in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 28 April, where the case was adjourned until 27 May.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) will stand alongside local communities at candlelight vigils across the state tomorrow, 6 May, in honour of the lives tragically lost to domestic and family violence (DFV).

National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day is held annually on the first Wednesday of May, aligning with DFV Prevention Month in Queensland.

It is commemorated with candlelight vigils to honour those who have lost their lives or who continue to be impacted by DFV.

QPS Deputy Commissioner John Tims said it was an opportunity to reflect, listen, and reaffirm a collective commitment to safety and accountability.

“National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day is a time to honour and remember the lives lost to DFV and to stand with the families, friends, and communities who carry that loss,” Deputy Commissioner Tims said.

“Tomorrow, Queensland Police Service members will join candlelight vigils across the state to remember, to show solidarity, and to reinforce that everyone has the right to live without fear of violence and to feel safe at home.”

Domestic and family violence remains a serious issue that carries significant legal consequences, with police responding to more than 500 DFV-related occurrences every day on average – one every 3 minutes.

“Domestic and family violence has tragically claimed too many lives,” Deputy Commissioner Tims said.

“Our officers are committed to doing everything in our power to protect victim-survivors and hold perpetrators to account.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate these offences, support those impacted, and honour the memory of those who have lost their lives by striving for safer communities.

“This month we’re asking everyone to stand together, support each other, and be part of the solution – because violence in any form will not be tolerated.

“If you are experiencing domestic and family violence, or you’re concerned about someone you know, please reach out to police and support services – you are not alone, and help is available.”
