“Oh, you’re nice and early, Mr Osman…” said the man scanning my boarding pass at the Qantas lounge…

Well, yes, I am early - seven hours early, in fact. But when the choice is to sit in reception at a very average Premier Inn for hours, or, sit in the Qantas lounge making very good use of the free zero beers, and multiple food options, I mean, what would you do?

… and so it begins, my little hop across the pond back to Brisbane, just in time for spring and summer.

UK - it’s been emotional! Laters, baked ‘taters!

Probably for the last time this year…

One night in London, then it’s time for my regular work commute back to sunny Australia to spend a bit of time with the fam.

It’s been a good summer, with Five and McFLY cheers to everyone involved.

I’m still available until the end of the year, and I’m happy to come back to the UK or wherever, should any work come up - so do keep me in mind if you hear of anyone needing a fader pusher.

For now tho, laters Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿! It’s been tidy, see.

What has happened to touring this year?

I’ve had a reasonably busy summer, for which I am very grateful.

But now, as we approach the autumn, work has dropped off a cliff for a lot of us touring engineers and techs. In 30 years, I’ve never had so many messages from friends and colleagues saying they are available for work, and have nothing in their diaries.

There seem to be a lot of tours happening - so how can it be that so many of us have no work?

On the one hand, it’s less of a knock to my confidence, knowing that a lot of us are in a similar situation, and I’m not the only one. On the other hand, it doesn’t make things any easier, because bills still have to be paid, and nothing is getting any cheaper.

I have the added conundrum of living in Australia, but most of my work being in the northern hemisphere. So, do I go back to Australia, risking missing a tour that comes in last minute, by being in the wrong place - or - do I hang out in the UK, risking no work coming in, and also, as a double whammy, upsetting Her Indoors, and the kids, who (I hope) would like me to come home?

That’s a rhetorical question - of course I’m going to go home, and then fly back if work suddenly pops up.

Let’s hope something turns up to keep us all busy for the next few months - and let’s hope next year turns out to be as busy as it is predicted to be.

Another belter of a show with McFLY last night at Borde Hill.

Thanks to d&b solutions for providing the control package for us - as usual, a lovely DiGiCo Quantum 338 Pulse, and a KLANG:technologies Konduktor for me in monitor world, helping me to craft some nice 3D immersive mixes in our 64 Audio A18s ears - all o64 Audiogot a good clean with my new VAC Pro, before the show.

Three more shows with these guys in just over a week to finish off our summer run - then, like a lot of us this year, I still have no tours in the diary for the autumn - so let’s hope some last minute calls start coming in, or I may have to think about selling vital organs (possibly even my own), to pay the rent until Christmas 🤞🤣

Anyone need a kidney? One owner, moderately used, but still a few years left in it…

It’s new toy day!

Just took delivery of my new 64 Audio VAC Pro Cordless Micro Vacuum Cleaner for cleaning IEM’s, earphones etc.

What an awesome bit of kit.

I didn’t think anything could make in ear monitor cleaning any more glamorous.

How wrong I was!

It comes in a sexy little case, has various steel and plastic cleaning attachments, replacement filters, and a charging cable. Excellent!!

A massive thank you to 64 Audio and to Miles at Dakin Custom Audio for sending this to me. I really appreciate the support, as always.

My last show with Five tonight.

It’s been an absolute pleasure looking after this for a few months.

Couldn’t have asked for a lovelier bunch of people to hang out with.
