Sentiment among policymakers and stakeholders across the growth of purpose built student accommodation is strengthening, according to Knight Frank.

The asset class is increasingly being recognised for its role in supporting the growing student population while mitigating pressure on rental demand.

Since 2018 there has been average rental growth of 50 per cent across Sydney, 38 per cent in Melbourne, 36 per cent in Adelaide and 28 per cent in Brisbane for studio apartments in PBSA developments.

Plans for a distinctive two-storey commercial building have been filed for a long-vacant site on Lutwyche Road, linking the CBD with the river city’s northern suburbs, writes Phil Bartsch.

Landcom is preparing its first build-to-rent development in a metropolitan area, releasing concept designs of The Joinery planned for Sydney’s inner west, writes Renee McKeown.

The plans are for the former WestConnex dive site and have won backing from the state. This included rezoning the site from industrial to mixed-use and a development of up to 21 storeys.

The masterplan comprises 220 build-to-rent apartments for essential workers, 357 apartments that will include affordable housing and ground floor commercial or retail space.

FREECITY GROUP has filed a State Significant Development Application for the development on a site opposite Rouse Hill Metro station, writes Leon Della Bosca.

The proposed Tempus Street development, 32km north-west of Sydney, comprises 551 residential units across three towers of 11, 18, and 23 storeys. Its 551 homes would include 216 co-living apartments and 335 dual-key build-to-rent units.

Developer Birchmore and its capital partner IDA are behind the 9250sq m East Village Sunbury retail centre on Lancefield Road, Sunbury, 38km north-west of the CBD.
