Each year, Kakadu Beach at Banksia Beach, Ned Bishop Park in Toorbul, and other shorelines from Banksia Beach to Woody Point become landing places for migratory birds such as the Bar-tailed godwit, which flies 11,000 km non-stop from Alaska; the Eastern curlew, the largest migratory shorebird in the world, which makes its way from northern China; and the Curlew sandpiper which travels 13,000 km from Siberia.

Around 40,000 migratory shorebirds rely on Moreton Bay’s sandy beaches, mudflats, rocky foreshores, and freshwater wetlands for feeding, roosting, and recovering strength.
