‼️IT’S OFFICIAL: Australia’s 🇦🇺 New Visa Law is ACTIVE!
As of 13 March 2026, the Migration Amendment (2026 Measures No. 1) Bill has officially passed and is now active.
This is a massive change for anyone holding a temporary visa for Australia.
What has officially changed?
New Power: The Minister for Home Affairs can now issue an "Arrival Control Determination." This allows them to temporarily block specific groups of temporary visa holders from entering Australia.
6-Month Pause: These travel bans can last for up to 6 months at a time and are intended for use during international crises, like the current conflict in the Middle East.
Visas "Paused," Not Cancelled: Your visa won't be cancelled, but your right to travel to Australia will be "paused" while the determination is in effect.
Once the ban ends, your visa automatically becomes active again (if it hasn't expired).
Exemptions: This law does not apply to Australian citizens, permanent residents, or their immediate family members (spouses and dependent children). People already inside Australia are also protected.
Why was this passed so quickly?
The government states this is necessary to manage migration risks during rapid international developments. Reports indicate it may be used immediately for certain visa holders from conflict zones.
