Semper Floreat is the UQ Union's free & independent student newspaper. Semper Floreat has been the UQ Union's student newspaper since 1932.

In 2025, we're looking to publish monthly special editions, report on issues that affect students (online), and a podcast. We're seeking the following:

Today, our 2025 team met for the last time.

We’d like to say a big thank you to all of our wonderful contributors. We feel so truly lucky to have created such a brilliant community of talented and passionate students and writers.

The 2026 Semper team will do great things and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish!

Semper is bringing back the UQ Union President’s Debate!
Listen to each Presidential Candidate debate why their policies are best to lead the UQ Union in 2026, ahead of UQU Election voting week.
When: 6pm, Thursday the 9th of October.
Where: Steele Building, Learning Theatre (03-262), University of Queensland, St Lucia.

Hey Semper readers!

We’re experiencing lots of technical difficulties with our website. Our UQU IT team are currently working to resolve these issues, but they are out of our hands for the time being! In the meantime, grab your edition of Semper outside UQU Complex.

Surprise, Semper readers! 🗞️🚨
We have TWO editions that have launched today.

Our Disability Edition, in collaboration with , is available to pick up. We are so excited for tonight’s launch event with our lovely contributors and DisCo members - photos to come!

Our team has worked around the clock to ensure we can deliver a Palestine Action Issue prior to the nationwide march this weekend. Thank you to all of our contributors, particularly .magandjin for your help and collaboration.

Both issues are available for collection outside the UQU Complex ⭐️

In solidarity with Palestine and ahead of the August 24 rally in Brisbane, Semper Floreat is producing a rapid-response issue dedicated to Palestinian voices, resistance and action.

We're seeking:
•Stories, analysis, and op-ends
•Poetry, art and photography
•First-hand accounts and reflections

We especially encourage Palestinian students to contribute, but all students committed to justice are welcome write.

Submissions may be published anonymously or under a pseudonym.

Semper Floreat is free and independent student media. We will document genocide while mainstream Australiaan media obscures it. This is an act of documentation and solidarity with Palestine.
