Semper Floreat is the UQ Union's free & independent student newspaper. Semper Floreat has been the UQ Union's student newspaper since 1932.

In 2025, we're looking to publish monthly special editions, report on issues that affect students (online), and a podcast. We're seeking the following:

Seeking something to do over the holidays? Semper Floreat has you covered! Articles for our next regular print edition are due by the 14th of July. This issue has no theme, so feel free to write about, or create, whatever you’d like! Reach out to us if you have writers block or need guidance, and email your work through to [email protected] for inclusion. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Semper Floreat, the UQ union student newspaper, is looking for students who experience disability, chronic illness, mental illness, neurodivergence and/or are d/Deaf to write for the upcoming DisCo Special Edition, in collaboration with the UQU Disability Collective, , scheduled for release in August of 2025. Semper Floreat wants to feature your work in the DisCo Special Edition! Please email your work to [email protected] by July 28th for inclusion.

The Semper Floreat team is very open to the inclusion of any creative forms of work in the issue. If you aren’t sure where to start, feel free to email or message any of the team at Semper Floreat or the UQU Disability Collective for more guidance, inspiration or feedback.

⭐️ SEMPER FLOREAT X WORDSMITHS WRITING COMPETITION ⭐️

We are so excited to announce our 2025 Creative Writing Competition, in collaboration with . This year’s theme: Dust

⭐️ The competition will run until August 3rd
⭐️ Submissions are to have a minimum of 500 words, and maximum of 1500.
⭐️ We are offering prizes: 1st, $500; 2nd, $300 and 3rd, $150, to assist winners in their future writing endeavours. All winning works will be printed in Semper Floreat.
⭐️ Submit through the Google Form link in our bio. All guidelines are available in a document on our website, available through our linktree.
⭐️ Feel free to reach out to us for any further clarification! Interpret the theme however you’d like - we can’t wait to read your works.

Join one of our Deputy Editors, Samuel, travelling to UQ Gatton Campus to hand out copies of the new Semper Floreat Q***r Edition magazine. Reaching out to campuses outside St Lucia is vital, and through the Semper Floreat, we aim to amplify the voices of students at Gatton.

It was fantastic to meet and speak with students out at Gatton. Please DM this account if you would like to see yourself in the next edition.
