The Ride

From the second of conception
Time begins its endless ride
Always traveling faster and faster
Leaving each breath behind
But we have no choice
We joined the ride before we knew better
Now, most of us are well beyond our prime
Still riding that ride
Collecting memories and feelings
Loving and losing the way the ride intended
We are hoping it will not end too soon
But also hoping it will end when the time is right
However, we do not have a choice
Whenever the conductor comes around
He will look carefully at our ticket
He will be the one to decide what station is ours
When he does that it is when our ride ends
And he won’t care as our ride leaves without us

The Lunch Counter

It was a whole other world
No cellphones or tablets
No text messages
People gathered and talked
The most popular places no longer exist
Every afternoon and all weekends
The place to be was the lunch counter
Woolworth’s always had the best
Every store in every mall and street
Great food that never emptied your pocket
And a staff that would make your day happy
No matter what mood you were in
It is so sad that Woolworth’s had to die
Sadder yet, the lunch counters went with them
But we do have memories and pictures
That way, they will always be alive

Hidden Pain

You cannot tell by looking at someone
What demons are tearing at their souls
How many tears their eyes cannot show
The endless pain that life has given them
Somehow, they manage to survive
Some even manage to thrive
But they keep their pain hidden
They do not want you to judge them
Or make things worse
They want to live the best lives they can
Just like the rest of us

Love’s Promise

He knows how important you are
His heart only beats when you are near
Dreams of you fill his sleep
And his daydreams show only you
He is proud of having you in his life
An integral part of a very long existence
All it took was for him to look into your eyes
And hear the first words you ever said
Love appeared in that moment
Promising to never leave
A promise it intends to keep

Where she got the British fingers, I have no idea
But man, they were delicious

Almighty Imperfections

I do not believe in perfection
Humankind was not made for it
Even back in medieval times
Artisans skipped a stitch or two
So, their tapestries were not perfect
Sometimes brush strokes were “forgotten”
Or a color was just a tiny bit off from the rest
Again, not perfection
I am one who follows this tradition
An added or missing lettr
A period or comma in the wrong place
The thing is, only God can be perfect
And not one of us is God
So, we love imperfections as our own
A creative way to show tribute to The God Almighty

You Can Make A Choice

It has been a long time
We cannot remember our last win
Still, we fight and fight
Trying to make things work
Instead, we become confused
Not knowing what is true
Maybe we should go with our hearts
Not trying to overthink things
Sometimes we may get it right
Other times we will likely get it wrong
So, think about it all this way
We will have to live with it
So make a choice
And let the crap fall where it may
After all, it may be fun to watch.

How dare you come to my land
We never said that you were welcome
You just came and took over
Just as if you owned the place
Well, guess what...you don’t
We are the Alphas here
We decide who comes and who stays
So, if you know what is good for you
Go back to where your kind came from
Or try staying in your cities
You might be safe there
But we haven’t decided yet
Maybe we will let you know when we do
Maybe not though
That is all up to you

Its colors shine brightly

But will only be seen for a short time

It can be seen for just moments

The sad thing is that once it is gone
There will never be another one like it

The Small Shops We Remember

It seems like a very long time ago
Small shops lining the streets
In some cases, for blocks
Every one was different
Offering anything you could want
Their people stayed with them for years
Not there one day and gone the next
These people were your friends
You knew their names and they knew yours
But that was a very long time ago
Before malls and superstores
For sure that was a better time
Friendlier and more caring
But it was taken away by money
And sadly, those small shops will never return

I have very little left

All alone
I beg for food when I can

Please, Sir, I do have favor to ask
If you have even a single bomb left
Drop it on this innocent child
For I do not want to live any longer
Not in a world that does not exist
