MNM & Art as Catharsis Present:
CATHARSIS NOW!

Come along to , bring your instrument and join us in a new monthly series dedicated to improvised music and collective release. Each month, the Brisbane Conduction Orchestra is joined by two other acts - one of which becomes the Catharsis Now! Band (formed live on the night) where local musicians put their names into a hat, and four performers are drawn at random to create a one-off ensemble for the performance. No rehearsals, no discussion - just presence, listening, and (hopefully) some catharsis. Valtozash is the world's most brutal jazz-metal orchestra! It’s a 15-piece thrash against your jazz-bone; it’s a jab in the eye with a sopranino saxophone; a punch in the jaws with a 24” trash cymbal. Your ears will bleed with delight; your heart will marry a bass drum; you will enjoy the pain of eating a trumpet with your ears.

Doors from 7pm. Entry is free, with donations encouraged to support the artists and the continuation of the series. Under 18's can attend up until 10pm with a guardian.

Part of the joy of running this label is the community that connects around it. I hadn’t known Yemo before hearing his music and after that first listen, a lot became clear about him! He’s open, caring, moves with intention and can write some really beautiful music! It’s a pleasure to welcome him and his fabulous ensemble to the MNM crew - here’s some of his writings from the liner notes:
“This album started off as an attempt to capture and distil some of the core memories I’ve had in life. However, during the process of it I came to the realization that it was the universality within these shining moments that made them so priceless for me. They’re the same core experience shared by people of different time and culture, although taking different forms and narratives, therefore eternal. I hope whoever chooses to listen to this album will be able to feel that the voice of their inner child is heard, and deeply valued.”
