4ZZZ TURNS 50: CELEBRATING HALF A CENTURY OF RADICAL VOICES & REAL COMMUNITY RADIO
BRISBANE, QLD – It all began as the bold, student-led community radio station housed at the University of Queensland back in 1975. Now, 4ZZZ still stands as one of the most enduring voices in Australian media - playing a major role in shaping the music, cultural and political scene of this city and beyond since the very start. This year, join Brisbane’s own 4ZZZ as we celebrate 50 years of broadcasting boundary-pushing music, news, culture and activism! Since its beginnings at the University of Queensland, 4ZZZ has been a thriving hub of activists, artists, musicians, and journalists; everything from weird and wonderful creatives to frontline advocators of political and social change. Born out of resistance in the hyper-conservative era of Bjelke-Petersen, you could tune in to 4ZZZ to hear voices you wouldn’t hear anywhere else. The driving force behind the station’s inception were disenfranchised young people taking action and forming an alternative where their voices could be heard. This has to go beyond regulation - the genie is way out of the bottle… it is what allowed the rapid acceleration in evolution of AI in the first place. It is the global neural network called the Internet - a world encompassing electronic brain where pretty well everything exists there in both great and s**t... and all that sits between. It is it’s macrocosm of content to grow its database memory, the capacity for mathematical synthesis and summary, and the subsequent output of permutations and combinations. All culture to some degree exists in it's web of existing to be scraped and regurgitated per se!

AI is going to stream roll through on its own mission prompted by the pursuit of extreme profit by its tech bro enablers. Regulation will not stop it. Governments will fail to act caught in a state of FOMO and falling behind in the tech leap. Whatever is on the net is open fodder to be scraped as it sits in a quasi territorial jurisdiction like a dark net of parallel reality. Just like a human brain learning except at voracious capacity and minimal discriminatory comprehension - all knowledge and culture is absorbed. Even Spotify appears to have lost control of it now having it filling their content bank with 750,000 plus tracks of AI generative slop. Copyright will be eaten like an ouroboros as AI generative content is non-copyrightable. Negative approaches will do little to curtail the impact - there is a need to adopt positive approaches and educate people as to directions to go to avoid and not engage. Starve it of engagement.

In some instances he was the first authority to listen to a victim’s account:

"Palestinians in Gaza, he says, are trapped. They have nowhere to go. Israel has been conducting this type of campaign from day one: of saturation bombing, mass slaughter, destruction of all infrastructure that can sustain life – healthcare, education, housing, religious and cultural sites; for significant periods it has amounted to the imposition of mass starvation. And all of that is occurring in a context where people have no means of escape. They are literally a captive population. Pretty obvious all around that the hatred of this government is all out Holocide! It is about the erasure of people and place... and if the world had any clear sense of social justice and environmental concern then they would have stood up and called off this annihilation of GAZA soon after this all went out of control.
