Woke with these thoughts this morning relative to productivity commissions - there is no "MAY" about it.

Persistent growth is unacceptable as a solution for the future... it is unsustainable, untenable as a way to live in an environment under increasing duress. All it is doing is hastening the wealth gap in economic systemic terms and exponentially increasing the financial burden by artificially accelerating the value of everything, and in escalating the environmental and climate degradation thereby increasing the cost of subsequent destruction events leading to greater impacts on lower socioeconomic quarters as much as adding to the cost of inaction whereby backstop support for such reality impacts as insurance, government assistance will start to dwindle and pull away from the surging risk. All of this is interrelated... it is like talking about the need for greater road tax to repair damaged roads and yet allowing and promoting the take up of larger heavier vehicles that lead to increasing road damage. It fails to address interrelated greater array of contingent issues. If you want to change the system relative to the future of young people then address the growing fractures of the current economic system - the escalating proliferation of greed - force the system towards achieving a greater scale of equality. Chasing greater degrees of productivity as a solution is like allowing heavier and heavier wealth to buckle the mercantile routes of economic activity.

Nothing like a good indentured slavery story in the music industry... still goes on now even in Australia. So called "captains of industry" just unimaginative middle men exploiting music artists' creativity, predominantly for their own gain more than the artists in some cases... celebrated for their work in industrial exploitation. A junk yard of misplaced recognition.

The plight of John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival is known to some degree but read this story of long overdue redemption - 50 years in the making to regain control of their creative work. Speaking in general, creative work that is the essence of our cultural being - just another product for commercial placement. All bound up in contractual obfuscations.

World at War and the unmistakable signs of genocide

When I was twelve I watched the Genocide episode of World At War as it was first broadcast on national TV at a special later time than the series had been regularly airing. The reason being was the graphic nature of the Genocidal footage broadcast. I couldn’t believe it was possible to treat other people is such a catastrophic horrifying way… it never left my young mind in that it dramatically shaped my growing view of the world. How does a large collection of people find the unified space, the severely compromised logic, and rationale in their grouped minds to destroy another group of humans through torture and absolute negation of another living human. I couldn’t comprehend the dire nature of such a process. I suppose it comes about through extreme states of denial, ignorance, blame, manipulation of media representation, and the threatening control of the dominant narrative… the mundane bureaucracy of mass extermination through the propaganda of dehumanisation allowing, through a perversely manufactured consent, industrial scale annihilation.

And now in this time, as much as since WW2, we have seen, and continue to see, to witness other instances of ongoing genocidal action… how the world can be in denial that the extremist Israeli government under Netanyahu plays out genocide right in front of our eyes is incomprehensible. Let us call it for what it is. The images I saw as a teen broadcast across national free to air TV of the Warsaw Ghetto and Auschwitz comes flooding into head. How can this not be condemned for what it is? For a start the nation of Israel is not at war with the world per se and they are perceived as being one of the good guys… their language of demonisation is seen within that frame so "how could they be guilty of such horrendous crimes?" Well so called governments of the free world - you need to see this for what it is and not pander to the propaganda and condone such dire action as their right to destroy an enemy. The persecution from both sides has been long drawn out in this conflict but in between it all are people who just want to live their lives… and it has been the Palestinian people that have been “caged” in Gaza as much as denied statehood. Arguably the relations have not been mutually productive but one party has held significant domination over another group of people whom the current Israeli government labels as “animals”, “terrorists” and immoral. This is not a pathway to mutual co-existence, resolution of any kind, and developing humane respect for each other. It fans the flames of incessant dis-ease… and now through the disproportionate "scorched earth" military destruction of all civilian infrastructure and social life, in what should also be considered “terrorism” on behalf the ongoing heavy handed response, pushes towards imminent collapse of the Palestinian people with starvation, disease and the eradication of all health, education, utility, food infrastructure… how can anyone with an ounce of sanity sit there and think this is okay? They can’t!

This is politically and ideologically motivated genocide! It is obvious to see. It is about time the world interceded - one party is not more right than the other. Generally when any disagreement goes too far between multiple entities an independent intermediary is required to step in and stop the situation deteriorating into a no win scenario. That moment was surpassed sometime ago now. This is doing nothing to quell any notion of anger, and if anything with the scale of damage inflicted and the resultant generational trauma now entrenches this for many generations to come.

Forming late ‘93 in Brisbane, core members Quan Yeomans and Ben Ely set off on a malformed trajectory of numerous EPs and albums recorded in idiosyncratic scenarios: TU-PLANG (1996) in the jungle outskirts of Bangkok; the pixel obsessed 80s jolt of UNIT (1997) in a condemned Fortitude Valley warehouse; …ART (1999) in a sun soaked Byron Bay beachside house; EDUARDO & RODRIGUEZ WAGE WAR ON T-WRECKS (2001) amidst the red bricks and cigar smoke of Andy Gill’s (Gang of Four) London house studio; MISHMASH (2004) in Melbourne's Federation Square glass panopticon studio for the disruptive Band in a Bubble reality pastiche; LOVE & PARANOIA (2007) in a bullet riddled studio in Rio de Janeiro under the looming arms of Corcovado with a gang of dueling Brazilian sound engineers; SUPERHAPPYFUNTIMESFRIENDS (2011) in Ben's old Melbourne Northcote shopfront; DIRTY POP FANTASY (2013) in the upper levels of a Hong Kong skyscraper apartment; the digital meta-virus that is HEADROXX (2018) fabricated over the internet; the recent cultural coloniser that is INVADER (2024). The past has trekked them live across Australia, NZ, Japan, UK, Europe, USA, Asia, Middle East, as much as an incessant barrage of festivals (Big Day Out, Good Things, Meredith, Golden Plains, Mona Foma, Spring Loaded, Clokenflap, Reading, Fuji Rock, Groovin’ the Moo, The Falls etc); tours with Boredoms, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Helmet, The Melvins, Weezer and KISS. DEM MOB are the most remote hip hop group in the world—born deep in the red dirt of the APY Lands of South Australia—and the first to rap in Pitjantjatjara. More than a music act, DEM MOB are a movement: fusing hip hop with cultural identity, education reform, and political resistance. Their work challenges the systems that marginalise First Nations youth and reimagines education as a tool of empowerment, not assimilation. Their activism has directly influenced education policy, reshaped pathways for young people in remote Australia, and sparked a international conversation about what real equity looks like, with speaking at conferences on using hip hop as an education vehicle in 3 different continents.
