We have a bad habit of blaming the human when the room is the problem.

In this snippet, I am challenging the entire foundation of traditional learning and work environments. If we don't build flexibility into our systems, we aren't testing someone's intelligence or competence, we are just testing their ability to mask and survive discomfort.

Let's drop the rigid expectations and start building spaces where processing information through movement, curiosity, or visuals is treated as a strength, not a distraction.

If you grew up believing your brain was fundamentally flawed because traditional school or corporate training models felt like an uphill battle, this episode is for you.

We carry the weight of those rigid environments for years, letting old labels dictate how we run our businesses, our careers, and our daily schedules. But your inability to thrive in a broken system isn't a reflection of your capacity. It is a reflection of a system that prioritised convenience over humanity.

In this week's solo episode, I am breaking down the science of cognitive differences and giving you full permission to completely remodel your personal learning and work environments to match how your brain actually operates.

What is one accommodation you made for your own brain in your adult life that traditional advice said was wrong? Drop it in the comments.

No two brains process the world through the exact same lens.

We accept this variation when it comes to physical traits or artistic talents, yet the moment we step inside a learning environment or an office building, we expect everyone to conform to a single, rigid standard. We expect people to sit still for hours, absorb wall-to-wall text, or hit targets using methods that completely clash with their neurology.

When you treat difference as a defect, you miss out on the incredible problem-solving skills, pattern recognition, and deep curiosity that neurodivergent minds naturally bring to the table.

It is time to stop outsourcing our standards to outdated models and start building frameworks that leave room for actual human beings to function.

Season 2 Episode 5 is live right now. Let's stop trying to patch up humans and start fixing the broken infrastructure around them instead.

We love to talk about productivity and education metrics, but we rarely talk about the architecture of the rooms where those metrics are measured.

If someone struggles to retain information during a lengthy, dry corporate lecture or inside a hyper-stimulating classroom, we label them as a problem. We act as though their cognitive style is an obstacle to be managed rather than a natural variation of being human.

The truth is so simple: the environment hasn't been considered.

When we refuse to build flexibility into our educational and workplace structures, we choose compliance over actual capability. We force neurodivergent people to burn immense amounts of energy just trying to exist in the room, leaving them with absolutely nothing left for actual engagement or creativity.

In this week's solo episode, I am diving straight into why brains don't learn the same way and how we can start designing spaces that respect human anatomy instead of fighting it.

Algorithms are built to reward neat, polished, predictable boxes. They love standard models, corporate templates, and people who behave exactly as expected.

But this show? This show is built for the humans who don't fit into those boxes. We are building in the wild moments of real life, with crows cawing, coffee being reheated for the third time, and honest, raw conversations about navigating trauma, business, and neurodivergence on our own terms.

Because we refuse to play the sanitised corporate game, reaching the people who actually need to hear these episodes means fighting the invisible tech infrastructure. And the absolute easiest way to help us win that fight is a single tap.

If you get value from these conversations, if they make you feel seen, or if they give you the permission slip you needed to stop forcing your brain into a mould, please take five seconds to hit the "Follow" button on Spotify.

It tells the platform that independent, neuro-affirming, zero-bullsh*t audio matters. It costs you nothing, but it keeps this show completely alive and growing.

When your brain refuses to cooperate, trying to think or talk your way out of a severe stress loop simply does not work. You cannot logic yourself out of a physiological reaction.

You need a physical circuit breaker.

In this snippet, Darlene Killen explains the genuine science behind using fragrance compounds to interact directly with your limbic system and calm your nerves when traditional tools fail. We are moving past the fluffy wellness trends and mapping real neuroscience to everyday routines, because trying to shape-shift into someone you are not is a tax you can no longer afford to pay.

If you are tired of trying to force your unique brain into cookie-cutter self-care boxes or rigid productivity models, this week's episode with Darlene Killen is your permission slip to stop conforming.

We dive deep into what happens when you treat your nervous system's responses as pure data and start designing a life, business, and daily routine around how your body actually works. From using clinical aromatherapy as a literal circuit breaker for stress loops to fixing the invisible infrastructure that hides neurodivergent practitioners from AI systems, it is time to build a life on your own vibe.

Read that again.

This absolute truth bomb from my guest, Darlene Killen, is something every single neurodivergent and trauma-surviving human needs to hear.

We spend so much time waiting for the world to magically change, or waiting for people around us to intuitively understand exactly what we need to feel safe and regulated. But the reality is, nobody else can build that infrastructure for you. It is entirely your job to figure out your blueprint, communicate it clearly, and protect it fiercely.

In this week's episode of Different Like You, Darlene and I unpack what happens when you stop outsourcing the manual to your well-being and start designing systems tailored directly to your nervous system.

How well are you communicating your true needs to the people around you right now? Let's chat in the comments.

For a long time, I thought that when my nervous system went into overdrive, I was the one who was fundamentally broken. We treat our trauma, our neurodivergence, or our deep burnout as defects that we need to aggressively fix just so we can squeeze ourselves back into a world that wasn't built for us anyway.

My guest, Darlene Killen, decided to stop trying to function like someone who was never hurt. Instead, she started treating her nervous system's responses as pure information and built a life, business, and daily routine around how her body actually works.

If you are tired of trying to force your unique brain into cookie-cutter self-care or productivity boxes, this conversation is your permission slip to build personalised systems that actually respect your limits.

We dive deep into how she uses evidence-based clinical aromatherapy as a physical circuit breaker to interrupt trauma loops when the brain refuses to cooperate, and how she is fixing the invisible infrastructure that hides neurodivergent practitioners from AI systems.

For the people who are tired of the polished, perfectly curated internet.

This is what making a podcast actually looks like. It is a laptop covered in stickers, a microphone perched on a dining table, a stray pink pencil, and a notepad with ideas scribbled down between the chaos of daily life. There are no soundproof booths here. Just real life happening in the background while we have honest conversations about what it means to be human.

We do not do performative around here. We do not try to look like we have it all sorted, because nobody does. Different Like You was built for the messy, the neurodivergent, the rebels, and every single human who does not fit into a neat little box.

If your life feels a bit cluttered, a bit chaotic, and entirely outside the status quo, you are in the right place.
