**My grandmother thought the dogs were just being annoying that night. She had no idea they were trying to save her life. 🐾💔**

Grandma was asleep when Max and Daisy suddenly started scratching at her bedroom door.

They ran to her room, came back to me, then ran back again.

At first, I ignored them.

But they wouldn't stop.

When I finally opened the door, Grandma was sleeping peacefully.

Then I noticed the space heater beside her bed.

A blanket had slipped onto it, and the edge was already starting to burn.

I pulled it away and unplugged the heater just in time.

Grandma had no idea what had happened.

She hugged both dogs and started crying when I told her.

That night, they weren't being annoying.

They were trying to tell us:

**“Something is wrong. Please help her.”** 🐾❤️

Sometimes dogs notice danger long before we do.

Give your dog an extra hug tonight. ❤️

I was gone for THREE minutes. 🧻

Three minutes.

I came back to this.

The entire roll. Across the entire bathroom floor.
He's sitting in the middle of it like a little king
on a paper throne.

I looked at him.
He looked at me.

Then he pushed my finger away.

Pushed. It. Away. 😂

Eight weeks old and already has the audacity
of a full-grown man who did nothing wrong.

I don't even know where to start cleaning.
I'm genuinely considering just closing
the bathroom door and pretending
this room doesn't exist anymore.

He is unbothered.
He is regal.
He is absolutely going to do this again tomorrow.

Tell me your dog has done something like this
and I'm not alone in this 😂❤️

This morning I turned around for 45 seconds.
Forty. Five. Seconds.

I came back and he was attempting to climb
the sofa like it was a mountain he was born
to summit.

Front paws up. Back legs completely useless.
Just scrambling. Fully committed. Zero plan.

He made it.

Then he spun in a circle three times,
flopped down like he'd just run a marathon,
and fell asleep.

That sofa cost me $800.

It has been his for approximately six minutes
and I genuinely don't know how to tell him
it was ever mine. 😂❤️

He is 8 weeks old.
He weighs maybe 6 pounds.
He owns everything he touches.

Following along from Day 1?
You already know how this goes 😂

Drop a 🐾 if Koda just claimed your heart too.

I wasn't even looking for a dog. 🐾

I walked past the litter.
I told myself I was just looking.

Then this one looked up at me.
Not at the people next to me. At me.

I drove home with a puppy in my passenger seat
and no plan whatsoever. 😂

His name is Koda.
He is 8 weeks old.
He has been home for exactly 24 hours.

And this morning I gave him one piece of kibble
by mistake while I was still filling the bag.

The look he gave me.

He didn't bark. He didn't whine.
He just... placed his paw next to the bowl
and looked at me like I had personally
let him down.

I have never felt more judged in my entire life.

We are on Day 2.
He already runs this house.
I am simply staff. 😂❤️

Has your dog ever given you THAT look?
You know the one. Drop it in the comments 👇

I lost my job six months ago.

I have not told anyone. Not my parents. Not my friends. Not most of my family. I get up every morning and I put on my work clothes and I leave the house and I drive around for an hour and then I come home and I change and I spend the day on my laptop looking.

Duke figured it out on day one.

I do not know how. I came home that first morning after pretending to leave and changed out of my work clothes and sat down on the floor with my laptop and Duke walked over and pressed himself against my side and put his head in my lap and looked at my face.

He has not left my side in six months.

Not when I come home from my pretend-commute. Not when I am on the job search websites. Not when I close the laptop and lean against the wall because I need a minute. He puts his chin on my chest when I lean back. He just looks at me.

He has never once wagged at me the way he used to. He knows this is not wagging time. He just stays. Steady. Warm. Present. His chin on my chest and his eyes on my face.

My wife thinks I am at work. My parents think I am at work. Duke knows I am on the floor in work clothes looking at job search websites and he has decided that being on the floor in work clothes looking at job search websites is something you should not do alone.

I got an interview next week. First one in six months.

I told Duke this morning. His tail went.

I do not know what I would have done without the dog who figured it out before I told anyone and decided that figuring it out meant not going anywhere.

Drop a ❤️ for Duke. Share this for everyone carrying something they have not said out loud yet and every dog who knows anyway.

He knew on day one.

He has not left.

Bernard is a 6 year old Saint Bernard. He has been here for 19 months.

In 19 months he has not shown interest in another dog. Not in a person. Not in a toy. He exists here. He is healthy. He eats. He sleeps. He does not engage.

Last Monday a 12-week-old Dachshund puppy came in. We named her Poppy.

Poppy cannot reach her water bowl. Her legs are too short. Standard shelter bowls are too high for a 12-week Dachshund puppy. We lower it when we do rounds. In between rounds she cannot reach it.

Monday afternoon I came down the corridor. Bernard was sitting at Poppy's kennel door. In the corridor. Pressed against the outside of her door. Looking through the mesh at her.

In 19 months Bernard has never sat at another dog's kennel door.

He has not moved from her door since Monday. He eats and comes back. He is there in the morning when I arrive. He is there in the evening when I do the last check.

What he does when she makes a sound is the part I cannot explain. The instant she makes any sound — any tiny puppy sound — Bernard sits fully upright at her door. Full height. Full Saint Bernard height. Alert. Present. Every time. Without exception.

He cannot help her. He cannot open the door. He cannot lower her bowl. He cannot do anything except sit fully upright at her door in the corridor.

So that is what he does.

We have started lowering Poppy's bowl every time we pass. Because of Bernard we pass more often.

Bernard is 6 years old and enormous and has shown no interest in anything for 19 months. Poppy is 12 weeks old and tiny and cannot reach her water bowl.

He sits at her door. She makes sounds. He sits up.

That is the whole thing.

Drop a ❤️ for Bernard and Poppy. Share this until it reaches the family with space for the largest dog and the smallest puppy who found each other across a kennel door in a shelter corridor.

19 months of nothing.

Then Poppy.

He sits up when she makes a sound.

He has not left her door since Monday.

Rex failed his police K9 training.

He was too gentle. He would not pursue. He would not apprehend. Every time they set up a training scenario he just wanted to say hello to the person he was supposed to chase. They sent him back after three months. The trainer's notes said: this dog has no drive. This dog is too soft. This dog wants to be everyone's friend.

We adopted him the same day.

Six months later I came to the back door at 4PM to call the dogs in for dinner.

Rex was lying across Daisy on the lawn. Daisy is our daughter's certified diabetic alert dog. Daisy had collapsed — her blood sugar had dropped while they were outside and she had gone down on the grass.

Rex was lying across her. His body over hers. Keeping her warm. His eyes were on the back door. He was watching the door waiting for one of us to come out.

He did not run inside to get us. He stayed on her.

I ran across the lawn. I got my hands on Daisy. Rex slowly lifted himself off her and sat right beside her and his tail started going. Three slow wags. He watched my hands on her the whole time.

Daisy is fine. She recovered. She is beside my daughter right now.

The trainer said Rex had no drive. Rex drove himself across the backyard to a collapsed dog and kept her warm with his body and watched the door for help and waited until the right hands arrived.

He was too gentle to be a police dog.

He was exactly gentle enough for what mattered.

Drop a ❤️ for Rex. Share this for every dog who failed at the job someone assigned them and found the right job on their own.

He just wanted to say hello to everyone.

That day he said: I have got her. Come quickly.

My husband deployed 8 months ago.

The night he left Luna sat at the front door until 3AM. I finally got her to come to bed.

She went to his side. She put her head on his pillow.

She has not slept anywhere else since.

Every morning I wake up and make my side of the bed and turn around and Luna is on his pillow with her eyes on the bedroom door. She watches that door every morning. She watched it at 3AM on the night he left. She watches it every morning at 6AM still.

I sat on my side of the bed this morning and put my hand on her back.

She didn't look at me. She didn't lift her head from his pillow. She kept her eyes on the door.

Her tail moved once. Slow and certain. Then once more.

That was all.

I have thought about moving her off his side. About washing his pillowcase. I have not done either of those things.

She is keeping his place. That is what she is doing. She is keeping his exact place in this bed with her body so that when he comes home his side is held and his pillow has been warm the whole time.

I don't have the heart to explain to her that pillowcases don't work that way.

Maybe she knows something I don't.

Luna has been a German Shepherd for 5 years and a soldier's dog for 5 years and she has decided that her job while he is gone is to be on his pillow and watch the door.

She is very good at her job.

Drop a ❤️ for Luna. Share this for every military family and every dog keeping someone's place warm.

He is coming home.

She already knows which door he is coming through.

Walter came in as a stray six weeks ago.

No microchip. No tag. No record of him anywhere. We estimated his age at around twelve. Nobody came looking for him.

He has one habit that I need to tell you about.

Every morning at 8AM Walter sits at the front of his kennel and he wags.

Not at anyone. Not because someone is coming. Not because food is arriving. The corridor is empty at 8AM. He wags into the empty corridor.

Full wag. Steady. Warm. Into the morning air.

I have been doing the morning rounds here for four years. I have never seen anything like it. I walked past it for three mornings before I sat down on the floor in front of his kennel to understand what I was watching.

When I sat down he found me with those amber eyes of his and his tail went even fuller. I put my hand on the chain-link. His white muzzle pressed against the other side.

He does not know I am coming every morning. He does not wag because of me. He wags first. He wags into whatever the morning is. And when I arrive he just wags more.

Twelve years old. Came from nowhere. No one knows his story. Not one person came looking for him.

Every morning at 8AM he decides the morning is worth a wag and he gives it.

He does not wait to see if the morning deserves it. He gives it first.

I think about that a lot.

Drop a ❤️ for Walter. Share this until it reaches the person who wants to be what Walter wags at every morning for the rest of his life.

He has been giving the wag freely for six weeks.

He deserves someone to give it to.

Every morning, Daisy sat beside the same empty bowl.

She never touched it.

At first, we thought she simply wasn't hungry.

Then yesterday, I noticed something.

Daisy looked at the empty bowl.

Then she walked to the back of her kennel.

She came back carrying a small piece of old beige fabric.

She placed it beside the bowl.

Then she sat down.

I crouched outside her kennel and put my hand against the chain-link.

Daisy looked at my hand.

Then she pushed the little piece of fabric closer to the fence.

She wasn't asking for food.

She was waiting.

And that little piece of fabric made me wonder what she had before she came here.

Who used to sit beside her every morning?

Who used to fill that bowl?

And why does Daisy still sit there waiting?

She has been in the shelter long enough to learn the routine.

But maybe she hasn't forgotten the person who was part of it.

💔 **If Daisy could tell us what happened before she came to the shelter, what do you think she would say?**

Write your answer below.

Sometimes a shelter dog doesn't need another person to walk past their kennel.

They need one person to stop.

❤️ Share Daisy's story. Maybe the person she's waiting for isn't the person she remembers.
