I finally caved. My broody silkie has been trying to hatch eggs for exactly 42 days now straight (🙄) with no success because we don’t have a rooster. I went and bought her two one day old chicks and snuck them under her last night. Let’s pray it fixes her baby fix she is so so happy with her new fluffs she won’t stop talking to them.

My duck, Matilda, hatched ten eggs about a week ago. Sometime during her incubation, this broody hen stole one of her eggs. Well, that egg hatched a few days ago, and this little duck and his mama chicken are inseparable. Here he is, ignoring his biological siblings completely while safe under his mama. The other ducklings are flabbergasted at this small creature that looks like them but prefers the company of chickens. If you’ve never seen a wtf face on a flock of baby ducks, you have now. 🤣

I can’t wait for this sidewalk chalk to hatch. 🤦‍♀️
I spent the last couple of days moving CC (chalkie chick) off the nest, put the chalk on the shelf and broke up the nest. She kept going back and put one chalk piece back in the nest. This afternoon she was singing loud, laid an egg and hadn’t gone back to the nest. ❤️

Molting my ass!! I saw a chicken go in the bushes, then I checked and found 40 eggs back there! I cut the bushes back....

This is Reba. Reba is the most dog like chicken I know and probably one of my favorites. Today I was cleaning out the coop and found a rat nest. The rat ran, I screamed and Reba came running. Reba grabbed one of the rats, banged it on the ground and swallowed it whole. I definitely didn’t expect that from my Reba. 🤣😝🤢

Thank goodness we spent all that time and money building a huge coop for them! They choose to ignore the roosts and sleep on the ground and ignore their nesting boxes to lay in tractor supply pine shavings bags. We finally gave in and leave them the bags on the porch so they can do their thing. Makes collecting a lot easier for me. lol. Weirdos.

I lost one on Monday ( Black Silky Bantam and 1 today) so I decided to see what you all suggested, since I just started this chicken life 4 years ago.
If it isn’t loose dogs, it’s our pool, and now the fence that I hired someone to build 4 1/2 months ago.
I feel like the worst chicken mom!
This is the second time this week!
First my black silky bantam and this one we were going to get rid of him bcuz he turned out to be a roo and they don’t allow here, but still 😐
I don’t even cry anymore I just get mad!
We have lost 17 so far ( since 2020) built a fence to keep loose dogs away and they still manage to die.
I’m going to put a thin board across the top and I’m not going to let them free range anymore unless I’m out there with them.

Well a guinea hen i thought a fox got has returned with 20 babies. She seems protective of them all but my question is should I catch them and put them in the back coop and run for their protection as I have heard guinea are notoriously bad moms. Pic for tax.
