I’ve got my top 50 for The Pointies of 2025. It wasn’t easy. Choices may ruffle feathers, but I don’t care. Time to absorb the playlist and make sure I’m happy with it. Big tracks in the top 10, and maybe a few head scratchers for some. I’m sure there’ll be some ‘ya jokin, should’ve been higher’ thoughts too. Stay tuned.

PREMIERE - Quarter Short delivers compelling, hook-laced alt pop debut EP, 'No Sense'

‘No Sense’ is not a debut that feels like a debut. Quarter Short arrives with the confidence of an artist well into their career — lyrical imagery vivid and unforced, song structures layered and daring, delivery assured. These tracks play like seasoned third-album cuts, even as she introduces herself for the first time.

‘Feel The Answer’ is the EP’s emotional core, shifting between deep bass pulses, intricate beats and reverb-laced guitar, with piano so intimate you can almost hear the hammers breathe against the strings. Quarter Short channels shades of Kate Bush, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple and Hayley Williams without ever slipping into imitation. Between its walls sit brilliantly quirky alt-pop moments — Beck-like in their playfulness, nodding to The Beatles’ experimental detours — but always distinctly her own. Multifaceted without ever overwhelming, No Sense is a whirlwind of self-awareness and acceptance, and one of the most compelling, hook-laced listens of 2025.

We're premiering Quarter Short 's debut EP ahead of its December 12 release right now. Go check it out!

Brisbane’s Quarter Short, following on from her first single, ‘It Keeps’, and sophomore release, ‘Dreams Have Meaning’, goes all in on the release of her debut EP, ‘No Sense’, focusing on the third single ‘Feel The Answer’, which explores tense and quiet moments of a deteriorating ...

CINTRA pull no punches on vulnerable emotion-heavy alt rock / emo EP, 'Steady Habit'

‘Steady Habit’ definitely leans into the mid-00s emo and alt rock spirit, showing plenty of affection for shimmering riffs, lyrics that leave the deepest of bruises, and an eagerness to push boundaries. The influences ripple throughout, from flashes of The Matches and Panic! At The Disco’s theatrical edge, to shades of Motor Ace’s melodic grit - these are all woven in CINTRA’s own growing identity.

Across the tracklist, the band opt for movement over monotony. Instead of a straight-through rock assault, they deliver a rollercoaster of tone and tempo — from the punch of ‘Seeing Stars’ to the tender grit of ‘Lily’, each song landing like a snapshot from a different emotional season. It’s a record built from lived experience, and you can feel the weight of it, but there’s light threaded through the noise too.

‘Steady Habit’ feels like CINTRA stepping into themselves — more confident, more intentional, and with plenty more left to say. If this is the foundation, then whatever comes next is worth keeping eyes (and ears) on.

Brisbane’s rising force in alt rock, CINTRA have pulled together 5 meaty chunks of p***y, alternative rock into their newest EP, ‘Steady Habit’, which is out now.

Annabelle Grace has her 'Fingers Crossed' for her sunny indie pop 3rd single

‘Fingers Crossed’ marks a bright pivot for Annabelle Grace — stepping out from the melancholy shadows of ‘previous singles, ‘Throne’ and the Fiona Apple-tinged introspection of debut ‘Porcelain Face’, into something sunlit, buoyant and casually joyful. Where her earlier work carried a beautiful sense of weight, this one feels like she’s finally exhaling.

It’s indie-pop with the windows down, effortless in its vocal delivery and carried by a lightness that feels intentional rather than fleeting. Yet, woven beneath the shimmer is that same thread that ties her catalogue together — a folk-leaning approach to melody and storytelling, grounding the track in the honesty that first made her compelling.

‘Fingers Crossed’ is a playful left turn and an exciting reveal of range — a glimpse of what happens when Annabelle Grace lets the warmth in.

Time to check out Annabelle Grace 's latest single via the article below.

Melbourne’s Annabelle Grace returns with her third single, ‘Fingers Crossed’ which sees the singer/songwriter shift from the melancholic throws of her previous releases, into an upbeat, guitar-driven indie-pop anthem that captures the sting of broken promises ,wrapped in a shimmering summer so...
