The Heat is on!

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.

Join Donna at the October Fair Farms webinar on Wednesday 25th October at 12pm and get to know your WHS obligations as an Employer when it comes to working in the heat. Dehydration, heat stress, and heat stroke are very real dangers in our industry - especially for those overseas workers who may not be acclimatised to our summers.

Celebrating International Day of Rural Women (15th Oct) at a long lunch in Bundaberg today, hosted by The Money Edge.

Held at the Burnett Riverside Hotel, a room packed full of wonderful ladies (and 1 gentleman) enjoyed a superb lunch and heard from guest speaker Georgie Somerset AM, General President from AgForce Queensland.

Georgie shared her inspirational story from times past to present day, the many and varied roles she keeps her life fulfilled with (not busy!), the importance of scaffolding - where we surround ourselves with like-minded women who are there to catch us if we fall, the danger of labels and that the word 'just' should not be in our vocabulary.

Two key take-aways for me were:
1. No matter what roles we play in our families, business and communities - we are all leaders, as leadership comes from within.
2. We all have the power to 'influence'.

So ladies, while reflecting on International Day of Rural Women 2023, I challenge us all to change our language from:
..I'm just a....

and rephrase to...
..I AM....

Huge shoutout to the Directors and team from The Money Edge.

Some wise words of advice from your eye care professional.

Some wise words of advice from your eye care professional.

Today marks World Sight Day and the focus this year is on the importance of eye care in the workplace. Here are some tips to improve the well-being, safety and productivity of employees.

1. Good vision is important for all aspects of life. Glasses with an up to date and accurate prescription can improve productivity and accuracy by up to 22%

2. Prolonged use of digital screens can negatively impact people of all ages. Encourage the 20-20-20 rule. After every 20 minutes of screen time, you should look at an object at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It is also important to remember to blink more often when completing concentrated near tasks.

3. Most people will benefit from ergonomic adjustments to their work environment, including; adjusting your computer screen to be about 10-12cm below eye level, placing screens 50-70cm away from the eyes, increasing font size and position screens correctly or using screen protectors to reduce glare.

4. 90% of vision loss is preventable. Encourage regular preventative eye health checks at least every 3 years if under 65 years of age, and yearly if over 65.

5. Having the best possible vision can also improve our earning potential. One study demonstrated that after cataract surgery, 46% of people moved up one income bracket.
