Ireland Calling Radio Show Sydney were delighted to travel to Newcastle on Sunday to attend NSW GAA- Hunter Inaugural Gala Day. Thank you NSW GAA for issuing the invitation to us. It was a tremendous day & a great celebration of our Irish National Games.

We said we'd get back to you all with the proper thank-yous so here we are!

A big thanks to Colin, Theresa, Ned & Fergal from GAA for coming up to support our Gala Day on Sunday.
Thanks to Ireland Calling Radio Show Sydney for coming up to cover the day. It was great for folks from the big smoke to make it to a Hunter Irish event!
And thanks to Jacks Irish Society Newcastle NSW for supplying Zooper Doopers on the day- they were obviously very much appreciated in the heat!

We are excited to have Síofra McHugh join us in the studio after 10 am. Síofra is a talented musician who runs workshops and teaches young people about the joys of Irish music - stay tuned!

Síofra McHugh will present an Irish Music workshops for Teens and Advanced Children (previous musical experience) at 11am in the on Saturday 25th May.

Síofra comes from a very musical family and has been immersed in music especially traditional Irish music since a very young age. Síofra holds numerous all Ireland Fleadh Cheoil medals, was awarded the Michael Coleman junior Fiddle player of the year award. Síofra holds her comhaltas TTCT diploma , has performed as part of the Comhaltas tour of Ireland 2009 and British tour 2010. Siofra has toured internationally with many Irish Dance shows playing both fiddle and piano. She has also been featured many times on the Fleadh programme on RTE, Fleadh live, TG4 Geantraí, comhaltas live and recorded for national traditional music archive in Dublin.

We are looking forward to chatting to a most interesting woman. Gerdette Rooney from Monaghan is an intrepid traveller who has has travelled the world solo with her rucksack, camera and hiking boots. With a natural curiosity for other cultures, people and architecture, from South Africa to Iran, she has a wealth of stories all of which have been published into a book. Womadic Wanders is available on Amazon.

Gerdette will be in the studio from 9.30 and we are very much looking forward to it.
